AEW Grand Slam was a major success for the company on television, finishing first on cable and achieving its largest audience of the year.

The September 20 event from Arthur Ashe Stadium averaged 984,000 viewers and 469,000 (0.36) in the 18-49 demographic, ranking first among cable originals on Wednesday. (Data: Wrestlenomics & Sports TV Ratings)

Viewership saw an increase of 11% and Dynamite’s third largest of 2023 and highest average since February 22.

The 18-49 audience was up by 17% this week and was the largest demo audience since September 14, 2022 topping last year’s Grand Slam number in the demo.

In the 18-49 category, male viewership jumped from 285,000 to 383,000 while females increased 25% from 117,000 to 146,000.

Adults 18-34 had a minor bump of 6% up to 171,000 viewers over last week.

There was a sizable increase among adults 35-49 from 240,000 to 298,000 including a 38% spike with females in that demo.

Last year’s Grand Slam card averaged 1,039,000 viewers and 458,000 (0.35) in the demo, but you have to factor in the loss of homes with cable since last year.

In Canada, the show didn’t have the same pop with an average of approximately 77,100 viewers and 38,300 in the 25-54 demographic on TSN 2.

Dynamite ranked #5 among sports on Wednesday in Canada behind the Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees, which topped 1.2 million viewers, and other MLB-related programming, as well as a MLS game between Toronto and Miami featuring Lionel Messi.

Wrestlenomics reports that the peak segment was the four-minute overrun featuring the ending of MJF vs. Samoa Joe with 1,048,000 viewers and 513,000 in the 18-49 demo. There were two other quarters that topped one million viewers with 8:15 to 8:30 p.m. ET for the ending of Eddie Kingston vs. Claudio Castagnoli and several backstage segments, and 8:45 to 9:00 p.m. ET for the ending of Chris Jericho vs. Sammy Guevara and post-match angle and going into Jon Moxley vs. Rey Fenix.
