Rhodes said maybe he’ll use the ‘Stinger Splash’ in his honor.
38-year veteran, Hall of Famer and multi-time World Champion Sting stated he intends to wrap up his in-ring career at AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view in 2024. At Revolution 2021, Sting had his first match in five years. He teamed with Darby Allin to defeat Brian Cage and Ricky Starks.
Cody Rhodes was featured on-screen with Sting for the beginning portion of Sting’s time in AEW. While speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated’s FanNation section, Rhodes discussed Sting’s pending retirement and mentioned that although not confirmed, it was the last match he had been offered before leaving AEW.
Rhodes said cheers to Sting’s ‘wonderful career’ and said maybe he’ll break out a Stinger Splash in his honor.
The last match I was offered in AEW was that match. It wasn’t confirmed or anything like that, but just the little I had to do with his debut there is a wonderful memory. I was a little Stinger. Maybe I’ll pull out a Stinger Splash in his honor. Seriously, cheers to a wonderful career.
Joining Sting for his road to retirement is Ric Flair. AEW signed Flair to a multi-year deal. He stated that he plans to be with Sting all the way to his final match.
Sting is scheduled to be in action at AEW Full Gear. Him, Darby Allin and Adam Copeland are facing the trio of Nick Wayne, Luchasaurus and TNT Champion Christian Cage.
