NJPW’s Road to New Beginning tour kicked off with a big result.

Hirooki Goto scored a pinfall win against IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. on Wednesday, just a few weeks ahead of their title clash

Goto caught Sabre Jr. with the Goto Shiki roll-up pin as part of a fast, back-and-forth sequence near the end of their lengthy 17-minute main event tag bout, earning him a three-count and scoring a massive win.

The matchup saw Goto in a special tag pairing with El Desperado, beating the TMDK team of Sabre Jr. and Kosei Fujita in the headliner from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

The result gives momentum to Goto, who is expected to headline NJPW’s The New Beginning in Osaka on February 11 in a title match against Sabre Jr.

Wednesday’s main event also earned Desperado a win over challenger Fujita before they meet in a title match at NJPW’s February 4 Road to New Beginning card in Korakuen Hall.
