Cedric Alexander appears to have parted ways with WWE.
The 35-year-old indicated the development in a social media post on Friday evening.
He wrote:
Thank you for the last 8 1/2 years! Being a professional wrestler has been a dream of mine since I could form memories and I will continue to do so till the good Lord says otherwise. #SeeYouIn90
The hashtag seemingly refers to what is commonly known as the 90-day no-compete clause. This is a common provision in WWE contracts whereby, when a talent is released, he or she will continue to be paid their basic wage as long as they do not perform for any other promotion.
This also indicates a release, rather than allowing a contract to lapse.
He began his career in Ring of Honor in 2010, starting off as a tag team wrestler alongside Caprice Coleman.
WWE signed Alexander after he received a very positive response from fans in attendance and online for his showing in 2016’s Cruiserweight Classic tournament.
He would go on to win the WWE Cruiserweight Championship in 2017 during the WrestleMania 34 kick-off show.
Later, he was part of the Hurt Business faction alongside Bobby Lashley, MVP, and Shelton Benjamin — now the Hurt Syndicate in AEW.
His last match was a loss to Ethan Page on the January 28th episode of NXT.
Thank you for the last 8 1/2 years!
