Gunther not bothered that he won’t headline Wrestlemania 41: ‘Doesn’t change anything’

The main event picture for both nights of Wrestlemania is set, and neither bout includes WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.

While Gunther is scheduled to appear at Wrestlemania 41 in a singles match against 2025 Royal Rumble winner “Main Event” Jey Uso, they’ll be facing off lower on the card.

Does this bother “The Ring General?” Not at all, per comments made during his recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show. He recently said that he felt like whether or not he headlines Wrestlemania won’t do much for his legacy in the long run, which is what he’s more focused on.

“There’s two main event spots,” he explained. “Some people argue there’s only one, [that] it’s the Night Two. At the end of the day, they’re big achievements, but that’s nothing I want to stress about. In the long term, later on when I finish my career and I [am] able to be financially set up, take care of my family, all of this doing the thing that I always wanted to do, I don’t think, if I never main event Wrestlemania, it’s going to make a difference about how proud or happy I’ll be about my career.”

Gunther went on to describe that he tries to stay in the mindset of focusing on his work without the commentary surrounding it, like whether or not he should be in the top spot of the show.

“Of course I see stuff, but I actively try to stop myself from worrying about this,” he said. “[You] can’t control it anyway. I can do my best, and I will do my best anyway. Doesn’t matter where I would be on the card … Doesn’t change anything.”

Gunther is coming up on the 250-day mark as World Heavyweight Champion, a title he has defended five times since winning it last August. The upcoming bout will be his second meeting in the ongoing reign against Uso, whom he previously beat in January as well.

A triple threat match between CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns is expected to headline the Saturday card for Wrestlemania. John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes will close out the second night.
