Mania Week Thursday Highlights

  • Hechicero vs. Kevin Blackwood (Pandemonium: The House Always Wins). Always enjoy watching Hechicero, and having Blackwood as someone to try and match/counter his style is a sight to see, as they went a 13 minutes and 50 seconds. The time stamp for the match is 1:53:24. The majority of the show is on the YouTube link above, but unfortunately, technical difficulties caused the first two matches to not be shown in it’s entirety. These included WWE ID prospect/EVOLVE regular Sean Legacy defeating new AEW signee Tommy Billington, and the first match since being released from WWE from Duke (Hudson), who was announced as such, although his social media has him listed as Duke Hanson now. (Sii-note: Duke replaced Wardlow, who was originally scheduled for this match but removed “due to circumstances outside of their control“. Wardlow hasn’t wrestled since March 2024.)
  • Nick Wayne vs. Michael Oku (ROH Prelude to Spring BreakThru). Before making the trip over to Las Vegas and having to wrestle 4 matches today, Oku competed against Wayne in a match taped before AEW Dynamite in Boston, which ROH decided to surprise drop today as a special episode on their YouTube. The time stamp is 25 minutes.
  • Clark Connors vs. El Phantasmo vs. Man Like DeReiss (DEFY Living Proof). Connors defended the DEFY World Title against ELP & DeReiss, who both made the case of having the ‘better LED sunglasses’. Other highlights on the show include a great six-woman tag match between Viva Van, Amira & Vert Vixen vs. Rhio, Nicole Matthews & Liiza Hall.
  • Arez, Latigo, Toxin, El Bendito & Canis Lupus vs. Gravity, Spider Fly, Aero Panther, Fight Panther & El Vengador (WrestleCon Mark Hitchcock Memorial SuperShow). As of this writing, I wasn’t able to watch this entire event, but I carved out some time to watch the opener, which was promoted as a mystery 10-man tag, and it did not disappoint with the Panther Brothers standing out for me and Gravity getting the majority of the reactions, due to his recent exposure. It was followed by Ninja Mack vs. Mascara Dorada, which I found a bit underwhelming and was hoping for more.

Countdown to Unbreakable

This is a different Countdown than usual, as it was the regular taped 2-hour TNA iMPACT from March 29th in St. Joseph, Missouri.

  • Laredo over Jason Hotch (w/Tasha Steelz) via pinfall (6:06). Hotch was distracted throughout the match, as Mike Santana had kidnapped John Skyler last week, so he kept looking under the ring to see if Santana might get him next. Laredo took advantage and hit the Laredo Fly to pick up the win.
  • Cody Deaner asked Santino Marella for help as his contract is coming up on May 1st. Marella told him that the board focuses on wins and losses, so he gives him an Ultimate X Qualifying Match tonight against KC Navarro, and if he wins that, it could help him secure his job.
  • Xia Brookside (w/Lei Ying Lee) over Jazmyn Nyx (w/Fallon Henley & Jacy Jayne) via pinfall (7:47). The ladies on the outside caused a bit of a distraction until Rosemary ran down and sprayed green mist into Jayne’s face. Brookside capitalized on this and delivered a small package to get the win over NXT’s Nyx.
  • Ultimate X Qualifying Match: KC Navarro over Cody Deaner via pinfall (3:56). Navarro tried to pay off Deaner to forfeit the match with $500 for his 4 kids and wife, but Deaner asked the people, and they declined. Navarro ended up wrapping his chain around his fist and knocking out Deaner for the win, to advance to the Ultimate X match at Rebellion.
  • Gigi Dolin & Tatum Paxley over Maggie Lee & Heather By Elegance (w/The Personal Concierge) via pinfall (4:41). The story here is that while Ash By Elegance is away on ‘vacation’, Heather & The Personal Concierge are taking Maggie under their wing, to try and make her ‘elegant’. At the start, Heather didn’t tag in and let Maggie do all the work, but once she was in, Dolin & Paxley finished off Heather with the Cemetery Drive to pick up the win.
  • Spitfire, Dolin & Paxley, and Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson all cornered Heather for a Knockouts Tag Team Title shot, who got flustered and agreed to give them all title shots in a four-way. The Personal Concierge said that Ash is going to lose it once she realizes what Heather has agreed to. The match is made official for Rebellion.
  • Dani Luna (w/Jody Threat) over Jakara Jackson (w/Lash Legend) via pinfall (7:05). Lash Legend got ejected for interfering, and wouldn’t go at first until a security guard came to escort her out, just to be taken out by Legend, who eventually left on her own. Luna hit the Luna Landing to pick up the win.
  • Elijah had a concert in the ring and announced the ‘Who Wants to Walk with Elijah’ Open Challenge at Rebellion for anybody from any company.
  • Brian Myers over Leon Slater via pinfall (11:38) after hitting him with the Roster Cut.

Before Unbreakable went on the air, there was a dark match where Laredo defeated Gringo Loco, that could air at a later date.

TNA International Championship Tournament Three Way Match: Eric Young vs. JDC vs. Zachary Wentz

The winner of this match will move on to another three-way later on this night to determine the inaugural TNA International Champion, where AJ Francis has already qualified. As soon as the match starts, both JDC & Eric Young head to the outside to regroup as the crowd starts doing the old ‘Fandango’ song towards JDC. Zachary Wentz takes them both out on the outside with a top rope moonsault. Young & JDC start double-teaming on Wentz as the crowd starts chanting ‘fight each other’ at them, and eventually JDC does take out Young with a DDT. JDC hits a Falcon Arrow on Wentz, but Young breaks up the pin attempt. Young comes back with a piledriver on Wentz to pick up the win.

Winner: Eric Young by pinfall at 8:48, to advance

TNA International Championship Tournament Three Way Match: Eddie Edwards (w/ Alisha Edwards) vs. Ace Austin vs. Steve Maclin

Right away they take it to the outside, where Eddie Edwards takes out Ace Austin with a Blue Thunder Bomb and stays in control as the crowd chants ‘Fuck The System’. Austin takes out Steve Maclin off the apron, before going after Edwards. Austin takes them both down with a Tower of Doom spot before going for the pin attempt. Austin goes on the top rope, but Alisha Edwards takes him out, taking advantage of the no disqualifications rule. Edwards joins Austin on the top rope and hits him with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex, but Edwards stays in the Tree of Woe position and gets hit with Crosshairs from Maclin. Alisha gets on the apron again and gets accidentally slapped by Edwards. Maclin follows with the KIA on Edwards to get the pin and the win.

Winner: Steve Maclin by pinfall at 9:57, to advance

Moose (w/ Alisha Edwards) vs. Sidney Akeem

Shawne Merriman joined the commentary team for this match to promote his Lights Out Xtreme Fighting MMA league, as well as telling us that he doesn’t ‘believe’ in Joe Hendry. Moose put out a non-title open challenge to any ‘high flyer’, and it was GCW regular Sidney Akeem to come out to accept. Akeem starts outspeeding Moose here, but Moose catches him right into a standing uranage. Moose sends Akeem to the outside and asks Merriman what he wants to say, as Merriman says ‘slam him’, and Moose does just that. Once back in the ring, Akeem sends Moose to the outside and dives onto him. Moose comes right back by powerbombing Akeem onto the apron. Moose gets in a shoving match with the captain of the UNLV Rebel Hockey team ringside, ala Bam Bam Bigelow/Lawrence Taylor. Akeem takes advantage of this and sends Moose into the steel post before hitting a hurricanrana. Akeem sends Moose inside and hits a top rope moonsault, but Moose kicks out at two. They start trading blows before Akeem hits backflips into a cutter, but Alisha pulls the referee out of the ring. Akeem begs for him to end the match due to DQ, so he ejects Alisha instead. As the referee is dealing with her, Moose hits a low blow, followed by the spear to get the pin and the win.

Winner: Moose by pinfall at 9:01

Mustafa Ali, Nic Nemeth & Ryan Nemeth vs. Mike Santana & The Hardys (Jeff Hardy & Matt Hardy)

This is a preview for TNA Rebellion, where Mustafa Ali will take on Mike Santana, while The Hardys will prove to Nic Nemeth & Ryan Nemeth which brother tag team is better. As soon as the match starts, all six men go at it. (Sii-note: In this match, and many others, the talent are wearing the new Chris Bey shirt, as they did a breakfast Q&A with Bey earlier in the day.) The heels take control, and all start taking turns stomping out on Santana, before Santana escapes and tags out to Matt Hardy. Nic Nemeth holds Matt back from making the tag, as Ryan Nemeth knocks Jeff Hardy off the apron. Santana tags in, but the referee doesn’t see it and tells him to go back to his corner. Ali takes down Matt and tries the 450 Splash, but Matt dodges it and hits a Side Effect and makes the hot tag to Jeff. All six enter and go at it until Santana sets up for Spin the Block on Ali, but he escapes and goes to the outside, just for Santana to dive onto him there. Ali runs to the back, and Santana chases after him. The Nemeths & The Hardys go at it and set up a superkick from Nic, but Santana runs back down and takes him out with Spin the Block. Matt hits Ryan with the Twist of Fate, before Jeff follows with the Swanton Dive to get the pin and the win.

Winners: Mike Santana & The Hardys (Jeff Hardy & Matt Hardy) via pinfall at 12:42

We go to the back, where Eddie Edwards & JDC are seen attacking Zachary Wentz.

Victoria Crawford, the former Alicia Fox, is shown sitting in the crowd, as well as singer Debbie Gibson and Tim Malcolm from 90 Day Fiancé. He was seated next to Women of Wrestling wrestler Paola Mayfield, who is also from 90 Day Fiancé, but she did not get identified.

Frankie Kazarian & Tessa Blanchard vs. Joe Hendry & Masha Slamovich

Commentary questions how healthy Joe Hendry is, as his shoulder is all taped up. Frankie Kazarian tells McKenzie Mitchell to announce that he is the ‘King of TNA’, which she begrudgingly announces. Kazarian corners Hendry, as Tessa Blanchard tries to take a shot at Hendry, but he stops her. As the referee pulls Kazarian off, Tessa hits an arm wringer on Hendry’s injured shoulder. The Vegas crowd is giving Tessa ‘She’s a racist’ and ‘Tessa, we’re coming for you’ chants as Masha Slamovich goes to attack Tessa on the outside. They start fighting right next to Victoria Crawford before Kazarian takes out Masha with a leg drop on the ropes. The ‘racist’ chants continue, as Kazarian starts showing off his Call Your Shot Trophy to Hendry, just for Tessa to take out Hendry with a cheap shot. Tessa stays in control until Masha takes her out with a rolling kick. Hendry & Kazarian tag in as Hendry attempts the Standing Ovation, but instead hits an AA for a two, as his shoulder had given up. Hendry hits an Olympic Slam, but Kazarian comes right back with the Chicken Wing. All four start brawling in the middle of the ring, but Kazarian accidentally takes out Tessa with a clothesline. Masha hits Kazarian with a superkick, followed by the Standing Ovation from Hendry to pick up the pin and the win.

Winners: Joe Hendry & Masha Slamovich by pinfall at 14:09

Santana catches up with Santino Marella in the back and says he’s sick of Mustafa Ali, and asks for a Falls Count Anywhere stipulation with Ali for Rebellion, which Santino agrees to.

They show Morlon Greenwood, Andreas Hale & Westside Gunn in the crowd, as they promote his 4th Rope show happening tomorrow.

Chris Bey is Unbreakable

Ace Austin makes his way out to the ramp and introduces Chris Bey, who comes out to a great reaction. Bey starts to say ‘I was’, but saying he ‘is’ the Ultimate Finesser Chris Bey, and it feels good to be back in TNA. Bey talks about having an accident in the ring 172 days ago that changed his life forever, by breaking his neck and paralyzing himself, and it was the scariest and embarrassing moment of his life, and he was embarrassed because he wanted to finish the match for the fans. Thankfully, due to the medical staff, he was able to have quick surgery, but was still given a low percentage chance of walking again. He worked tirelessly in that medical facility in Detroit, doing PT and OT every day of the week, and thanked the staff there for his patience. He says that Austin never left his side, never stopped believing and supporting in him, and was there for him. He says he honestly thought he wasn’t going to walk again, but because of the fans and the people behind the camera, he beat the odds. He calls the entire TNA roster his family and says he beat the odds because of them. He’s standing right there and says, ‘Look at me now’. He steals a line from Joe Hendry, saying he believed before joking that he owes him $20. Bey continues that they almost had him by breaking his spirit, until he looked in the mirror to remind himself that he’s unbreakable. Bey says that ‘all of this’ is the greatest story ever told before thanking everyone and embracing Austin. Amazing moment, and will be hard to top this, for this week.

Barbed Wire Massacre: Mance Warner (w/ Steph De Lander) vs. Sami Callihan

As you’d expect, the ropes are all wrapped with barbed wire, as well as barbed-wire-covered boards, chairs, and other weapons scattered around the ring. Sami Callihan came out in a white button-up and black tie ala Mankind before saying to the camera that this match was for Tommy Dreamer, Terry Funk & Sabu. Right away, Callihan sends Mance Warner into one of the boards with a Death Valley Driver. Callihan grabs a barbed wire bat as Warner is bleeding buckets from his arm. Callihan uses a Nintendo 64 controller to start digging into Warner next. Warner steps aside as Callihan runs into another board, getting himself stuck on it. They are both bleeding now, before they take turns pushing each other into the ropes. Callihan grabs a barbed wire ball and starts digging it into Warner’s arms, forehead, and balls, before suplexing him onto it. Callihan tries to piledrive Warned onto a board on top of chairs, but Warner reverses it and chokeslams him through it instead. A medic starts wrapping up Warner’s bloody arm before they start trying to push each other’s eyes into the barbed wire, but it ends with Callihan hitting a Stunner, but takes the bulk of the pain from the landing. Callihan grabs a lemon, tears off Warner’s bandage, and squirts the lemon all over it. Callihan gets some salt that he says he’ll go to later, because he has to use a staple gun first that he uses to staple Warner’s tongue onto a board as the crowd erupts into a ‘you sick fuck’ chant. Warner gets up with his tongue still stapled to the board, as Callihan smacks the board off with a chair, as blood is spraying everywhere. Now, Callihan grabs the salt, but Warner stops him with a low blow and pours the salt all over Callihan instead. Steph De Lander hands Warner a screwdriver, as Callihan grabs a spike that Tom Hannifan says Callihan used during his feud with Penta years ago. They both take each other down with shots to the head with their preferred weapons. Callihan puts on a Mr. Socko, wraps it with barbed wire, and puts it in Warner’s mouth, followed by the Cactus Driver ’97 to finally end this match with a pin.

Winner: Sami Callihan by pinfall at 19:22

We see Criss Angel (“Mindfreak) in the crowd before they run down the card for TNA Rebellion, announcing that whoever doesn’t get pinned in tonight’s main event will get to challenge for the TNA International Championship on the show.

Gia Miller introduces Elijah, who starts performing a song. He starts hyping up his Who Wants to Walk With Elijah Open Challenge at Rebellion, as his mic starts cutting in and out, causing some unintentional comedy from him. Elijah continues with another song about Chris Bey, Barbed Wire Massacre, and other matches from tonight.

TNA International Championship Tournament Final Three Way Match: AJ Francis vs. Steve Maclin vs. Eric Young

AJ Francis comes out with a Chris Bey shirt, just to toss it away to garner heat. Francis starts the match saying this is his house, as Steve Maclin & Eric Young clothesline him to the outside before they go at it themselves. Francis keeps trying to enter but gets taken out as Young & Maclin trade pin attempts. Francis eventually gains control, but the crowd doesn’t like any of this. Maclin tries to take him out with a Scud Missile on the outside, but Francis catches and tosses him before catching Young and power bombing him onto the apron. Maclin eventually does land the Scud Missile, as this crowd seems to be over this match, as we see a lot of empty seats from people who seemed to have left about the Barbed Wire Massacre match. The restless crowd starts chanting ‘This is boring’, as Francis heads to the top rope just for Young & Maclin to join him and hit a double superplex. Francis gets both opponents on his shoulder and hits a double Death Valley Driver, before doing a double cover that has a double kickout. Francis stacks them on top of each other and goes to the corner, but misses a moonsault. Maclin dodges Francis in the corner and sets him up for the Crosshairs before countering a Down Payment with a DDT, followed by the KIA to pick up the win and the title.

Winner: Steve Maclin by pinfall at 13:39, to become the first ever TNA International Champion

The show ends with The Nemeths, who have a pamphlet that says ‘open’, which they do, revealing a hologram of Matt Hardy inviting them to the Hardy Compound.
