Konnan confirms WWE’s interest in Mike Tenay for Worlds Collide

Konnan confirmed that WWE and AAA were in talks with Mike Tenay to call Worlds Collide.

On Keepin’ It 100, Konnan stated he was not the company’s first choice to call the June 7 event with Corey Graves and that Tenay was “one hundred percent” being considered.

This was previously reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, and ultimately, did not arrive at an agreement.

Konnan said he had heard about a money issue, but that he found it “hard to believe”. He followed by stating he was not the first, second, or third choice for the role.

Tenay called When Worlds Collide in November 1994 with Chris Cruise and led to his eventual hiring by WCW, where he served as the analyst when WCW introduced its Cruiserweight division with a heavy emphasis on Lucha Libre.

He remained with WCW until it went out of business in 2001 and never joined WWE. During that period, he had talks with the UFC before joining the upstart NWA TNA in June 2002 and became its lead voice.

Tenay was affiliated with TNA until 2016 and largely exited the industry.

He appeared at TNA’s Bound for Glory event in 2023, where he was inducted into its Hall of Fame alongside the late Don West.
