WWE is promoting that Bill Goldberg’s final match will be at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
While this was expected, it was notable when Goldberg appeared on Raw this week to challenge Gunther that it was never mentioned that it would be the 58-year-old’s last match. Goldberg wore a new shirt that said, “Goldberg’s Last Ride”.
In a press release from the company promoting individual tickets on sale for the weekend in Atlanta, it refers to Saturday Night’s Main Event being “headlined by Goldberg’s final match” when he faces Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.
The match will air on NBC from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, in the city where Goldberg played for the Falcons and beat Hulk Hogan for the WCW Championship in July 1998.
Goldberg retired from football due to injuries and reinvented himself as a pro wrestler at WCW’s Power Plant, debuting on screen in September 1997 and going on an undefeated streak that caught fire.
He became the top star for the group in 1998 and helped draw over 41,000 fans to the Georgia Dome for his match with Hogan.
He had an ill-fated run with WWE beginning the night after WrestleMania 19 and ending at the following year’s WrestleMania in New York City. In 2016, he returned to the company for a program with Brock Lesnar and was inducted into the company’s Hall of Fame in 2018.
Goldberg’s last match occurred in February 2022, where he lost to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
