Kurt Angle spoke about the myriad physical issues that have affected him since he retired from professional wrestling.
In a sit-down interview with WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh, the Olympic gold medalist detailed the laundry list of injuries and surgeries he has gone through as a result of his two decades in pro wrestling.
Angle has undergone a pair of knee replacements, two back surgeries, five neck surgeries, and stated he needs to have his shoulders replaced. While speaking about the physical toll, he says he has days when he thinks that “maybe I should have retired ten years earlier, but I’m very proud of my career”.
Angle, 56, spoke about being sober after painkiller and alcohol addiction dominated his life. After leaving WWE in the summer of 2006, he immediately signed with TNA and was arrested multiple times between 2007 and 2013 before going to rehab.
Angle wrestled for TNA until 2016 and returned to WWE the following year when he was inducted into its Hall of Fame. He would become an on-screen performer as the General Manager of Raw and return to the ring.
He retired after his match with Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 at MetLife Stadium in April 2019.
