Drew McIntyre says he feels “unbelievable” ahead of his return at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event this weekend.
McIntyre hasn’t wrestled since late May, when he lost a cage match to Damian Priest. The match kicked off a rare absence from the ring for McIntyre, who has been frequently competing for two decades.
The time away allowed McIntyre the chance to reflect on how specifically he can become a better wrestler, he told Fox News in a recent interview.
“I honestly feel better than I’ve felt in about, minimum, six or seven years,” McIntyre said. “During this time off, I’ve had a chance to step back and look at everything from an outside perspective, the product itself and more specifically me, because I’m only competing with myself as far as I’m concerned, nobody else. And I’ve realized, wow, okay, I’ve got some areas I need to improve upon.”
McIntyre felt that he was only giving about a 65 percent effort as of late, and that he wanted to change that. Part of his adjustments has been making a more focused effort on his physical health, including hiring a nutritionist for the first time.
“For the first time in my life, I’ve brought in somebody to start the diet the right way,” he explained. “I’ve brought in somebody to kick my arse in the gym. I’ve brought in somebody to start doing rehab and stretching things I’ve never done in my life. And, it’s unbelievable what it’s opened in my body. I feel exactly like I did, probably before I won the Royal Rumble in 2020. The way I’m moving about now, I feel unbelievable.”
McIntyre will appear in Atlanta, Georgia, this weekend in a singles bout against Randy Orton as part of Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC. The grudge match was made on last week’s Smackdown when McIntyre made his return to TV.
