Maine Sightseeing

AEW Dynamite from Portland, Maine, kicked off with a vignette from earlier in the day with the Young Bucks and Jericho visiting a lighthouse near Portland. They brought up their storied history, going back to the original Stadium Stampede. Jericho apologized for the past and suggested they move forward as they face Ricochet, Andrade, and Mark Davis later tonight. They couldn’t decide whether they should be the Bucks of Jericho or Y2Jackson. They finally settled on “Two Names, One Team.”

Young Bucks & Jericho vs. Andrade, Davis, & Ricochet

The first match of the night was the aforementioned trios match, with The Bucks teaming with Jericho to take on Ricochet and the Don Callis Family’s Mark Davis and Andrade. The Bucks of Jericho (or Y2Jackson) showed good cohesion as the match began, with the three able to execute triple-team moves to gain the advantage as the show went to break. Upon return, Jericho was taking it to Andrade (the first-ever time these two have faced each other), and Ricochet halted a Lionsault attempt. All three then hit top-rope hurricanranas as the action continued. The Bucks hit the BTE Trigger, but Ricochet hit the Ricosault to break up the pin. Jericho and Ricochet brawled into the crowd, and Jericho put Ricochet through the Timekeeper’s table.

Back in the ring, Andrade accidentally took out Mark Davis, allowing the Bucks to hit the BTE trigger on Andrade, but he was able to kick out. The Dogs then made a run in, and David Finaly hit Matt Jackson with the shillelagh, allowing the heel team to get the win. This brought out Toa Liona, followed by Jack Perry, who hit Liona with a bag of onions. The Hurt Syndicate was out next as the brawl continued, acting as a preview for Stadium Stampede at Double or Nothing.

A promo package for Okada vs. Takeshita aired ahead of their match for the International Championship at Double or Nothing.

Renee Paquette interviewed Darby Allin, who said he “feels everything,” and he couldn’t wait to shave MJF bald at Double or Nothing. He then addressed Speedball, saying he would do whatever it takes to retain his title tonight.

A recap of the Darby / MJF feud aired, intercut with all of Darby’s crazy title defenses of late.

Anything Goes Match

Next up was Tommaso Ciampa taking on Mark Briscoe in an Anything Goes match. Briscoe brought a trash can full of weapons out with him, and the bell rang right away. Ciampa attempted to go for a weapon but got his hand caught in a mousetrap, calling Briscoe a “fucking asshole”. Briscoe set up a table on the outside, but Ciampa wrapped a chain around his neck and threw Briscoe off the top rope through the table. Ciampa then pulled out a cheese grater and used it on Briscoe’s forehead, immediately making him bleed as the show went to break.

During the commercial, Ciampa nailed Briscoe with a trash can to the head and stuck a crowbar into his mouth. Ciampa then found a stuffed chicken, which he began hitting with a chair, and then attempted to pin. Briscoe was nailed with a cookie pan in the face, but fired up and took it to Ciampa. Briscoe then began stapling barbed wire to a table as he dripped blood all over his work. CIampa then took run sheets from the announce desk and stapled them to Mark’s head. Briscoe then stabbed Ciampa in the forehead with a screwdriver, as Ciampa was immediately busted open.

Ciampa then hit a running knee on Briscoe with a kneepad full of tacks. Ciampa didn’t go for the pinfall; instead attempting to hit the Psycho Driller on a pair of chairs. Instead, Briscoe fought out of it and flipped Ciampa onto the chairs, with Ciampa landing on his back on the back of the chairs. Briscoe finished him off with the Jay Driller from the apron through the barbed wire table and finally the Froggy Bo. This was nuts.

Swerve Returns

Tony Schiavone attempted to introduce Swerve Strickland, but Prince Nana interrupted him and took over. Swerve made his way to the ring but was jumped by Bandido, who he attacked after Bandido’s match at Supercard of Honor this past Friday. The two brawled back and forth until Swerve escaped a chair shot and retreated to the back.

Willow Injured

Willow Nightingale cut a backstage promo highlighting her accomplishments, including her previous win of the Owen. She announced that she injured her right shoulder in her match this past Saturday against Red Velvet. With that, she withdrew from the tournament and relinquished the TBS Championship. Her spot in the tournament is now a “Wild Card” spot, but it was not announced when that match would occur.

Continental Eliminator

Next was Jon Moxley vs. Kyle O’Reilly in a Continental Championship Eliminator match. The announce team pointed out that, even though this match was not for the Continental title, it was still conducted under Continental rules, with no one allowed at ringside and a 20-minute time limit. The first five minutes of the match saw neither man gain an advantage as they exchanged offense. Mox took O’Reilly down with a blow to the stomach, then focused on that area, as it was clearly an issue for Kyle. So much so that he couldn’t even bounce off the ropes.

During the commercial break, Moxley continued to focus on Kyle’s solar plexes as the ten-minute mark was announced. After returning, O’Reilly gouged Mox’s eyes and began to mount a comeback with kicks. O’Reilly went for the ankle lock (which he’s used to tap Moxley out twice before), and Mox quickly escaped to the outside. Once back in the ring, O’Reilly went for the ankle lock again, and the crowd cheered, recognizing the significance. Mox escaped and applied the Bulldog Choke, but Kyle reached the ropes. There were only five minutes left at this point as the two continued to try to place holds on each other. The two returned to their feet as the one-minute mark was announced. O’Reilly got the ankle lock again and cinched it in. Moxley bit his knuckle to stop himself from tapping and managed to last until the twenty minutes expired.

It was announced that O’Reilly had earned a shot at the Continental Championship, but O’Reilly got on the mic and declared that when he got his rematch, it would be no time limit.

Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida were interviewed backstage, and Renee Paquette said Statlander was not cleared but would be by Sunday. Shida annoyed Statlander by talking about both of their participation in the women’s world title match this Sunday, and she stormed off.

Rush challenged Darby Allin to an AEW Championship next Wednesday, assuming he survives in his match against MJF on Sunday.

8-Woman Tag Team Match

Next up was Athena teaming with Triangle of Madness against Thunder Rosa, Mina Shirakawa, and the Brawling Birds. The face team fought from underneath through a commercial break, and once back live, Thunder Rosa got the hot tag. This devolved into all eight women in the ring, with Athena impressing the crowd. Thekla grabbed the AEW title, and the referee caught her, allowing Julia Hart to spray Rosa with the black mist as Thekla rolled her up for the win.

JetSpeed cut a backstage promo with Kevin Knight, saying he wanted the first shot after Speedball beats Darby for the AEW title.

Renee Paquette interviewed Jon Moxley backstage, and he thanked Kyle O’Reilly for allowing him to act as a champion. It was announced that their no-time-limit rematch would be this Sunday at Double or Nothing.

AEW World Championship

The main event of the Dynamite portion of the evening saw yet another title defense by Darby Allin, this time against Speedball Mike Bailey. This would mark Darby’s seventh title defense. Just as the referee was about to ring the bell, MJF appeared to join the commentary desk. Bailey started the match out fast, nearly getting Darby with the Ultima Weapon right out of the gate. The two spilled to the outside and began to fight on the ringside barricade with Allin hitting the Scorpion Death Drop as the show went to break.

Upon return, Darby dropped the steel steps onto Bailey’s bare foot and hit him with a crazy-looking Tope to the outside. Darby then went for a Springboard Coffin Drop off the middle rope, but was caught by a Speedball drop kick. Speedball missed Ultima Weapon, and Darby countered with a Coffin Drop, but MJF put Speedball’s foot on the rope to stop the pinfall attempt. Kevin Knight ran down and confronted MJF.

Speedball had a number of near falls, but Darby caught him with another Scorpion Death Drop, but was unable to make the cover. Darby applied the Scorpion Death Lock, but Speedball made it to the ropes with Knight’s coaxing. Allin hit the Coffin Drop and reapplied the submission move, forcing Bailey to tap out.

As Collision began, Kevin Knight got on the mic and told Speedball he was proud of him. Knight turned to Darby and said that they would be waiting for him after he beat MJF. MJF returned to the ring and attacked Darby from behind after Speedball and Kevin Knight were gone. MJF pulled out hair clippers from under the ring, and Darby stopped him, almost shaving MJF himself.

Backstage, the Death Riders pumped up Will Ospreay ahead of his match against Shibata.

Ospreay vs. Shibata

The first match of “Collision” saw Will Ospreay taking on The Opps’ Katsuyori Shibata. Both men started the match by attempting armbars, but neither gained an advantage. Shibata then took control as he hit suplexes on Ospreay on the ring apron and the outside. Shibata followed that up by kicking a seated Ospreay in the face, sending him flying. After an ad break, Ospready was firing up, hitting Shibata with strikes and high-flying maneuvers.

Ospready set up for the Hidden Blade when Anthony Bowens appeared, distracting Ospreay and allowing Shibata to hit the Hidden Blade for a near fall. Marina Shaffir and Claudio Castagnoli appeared, backing Bowens down. Ospreay hit the Styles Clash on Shibata, following that with the Hidden Blade for the win.

Samoa Joe appeared, cutting a promo reminding Ospreay that he made a choice not to be in The Opps. Ospreay responded by talking about having Double Fusion Neck Surgery, and how ten years ago, that would have been the end of him. Ospreay said the Death Riders rebuilt him into an assassin, and at Double or Nothing, he starts his road to winning the world title at All In at Wembley Stadium.

Adam Copeland and Christian Cage cut a backstage promo talking about their thirty-year history. Copeland said they needed the best version of FTR at Double or Nothing. Christian added that because of FTR’s choices, they were going to fuck them up.

Rush “In Action”

Next, Rush took on TJ Crawford and defeated him with the Bull’s Horns in just over a minute.

Five Minute Challenge

Next, Divine Dominion took on Kayla Lopez & Elle Valentine in a five-minute challenge. Kross and Bayne dominated their opponents, winning in just under three minutes.

Tag Team Championship

The main event of the night was FTR defending their tag titles against The Conglomeration’s Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong. FTR got the jump on Cassidy and Strong before the bell rang, and Cassidy nearly caught a flash pin. FTR took control, beating down Roderick Strong, with Strong eventually tagging Orange Cassidy in after a commercial break.

The show took yet another commercial break, this time after 11 pm. After returning, Cassidy tagged in Strong, but the referee somehow didn’t see it. Strong was finally tagged in, and the faces picked up another near fall. Cassidy avoided a Shatter Machine and scored another two-count, this time on Cash. FTR hit the Shatter Machine on Orange Cassidy, but Strong made the save. Stokley then hit Cassidy with Christian’s stolen watch, and Dax made the pin. This was way too long, especially with an interference ending, and was it really necessary to do a nearly fifteen-minute overrun on a three-hour show?
