Jon Moxley has finally overcome one of his biggest recent rivals.
Moxley tapped out The Conglomeration’s Kyle O’Reilly on Sunday night, stopping him after 19 minutes to retain the AEW Continental Championship. The title bout took place as part of this weekend’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view from New York City.
Moxley, who has struggled significantly in matches against O’Reilly as of late, was able to submit him with a leg lock late in the bout. While O’Reilly was the first to go after an Ankle Lock, slipping in a hold he had beaten Moxley with before, the Death Riders leader was able to skillfully work his way out of the position and sink in a submission of his own to end the bout.
Moxley and O’Reilly worked a slow but technical match on Sunday night. Early minutes in the bout saw Moxley target the left leg of O’Reilly due to damage.
O’Reilly has proven to be one of Moxley’s toughest challengers over the past year.
O’Reilly earned numerous wins over Moxley in late 2025 and early 2026, notably submitting him to end the men’s Blood and Guts cage match in November.
The rivalry between O’Reilly and Moxley was reignited this week when they fought to a 20-minute time limit draw. Much like what happened when Moxley and Konosuke Takeshita fought for a full 20 minutes earlier this year, the result caused AEW to book a rematch with no time limit.
Sunday was the first time Moxley had beaten O’Reilly in one-on-one action since 2022.
Moxley has carried AEW’s Continental Championship since December, when he won it off Kazuchika Okada through the annual Continental Classic. Sunday was his fourth time putting the title on the line.
O’Reilly is currently the AEW World Trios Champions alongside Roderick Strong and Orange Cassidy.
