Conor McGregor to undergo surgery, says he is focused on final fight in UFC contract

Conor McGregor plans to heal up and give it one more go in the UFC cage.

Former two-division UFC champ McGregor had a bizarre, failed return to competition last weekend, making his first appearance in over a decade across from Max Holloway. The Irish star immediately injured his right leg in the fight. This injury caused him to slip and fall numerous times before referee Mike Beltran decided to end the bout in just 69 seconds.

A disastrous showing for “The Notorious” caused many to wonder if it was his last-ever time appearing in the cage. A recent social media post from the 37-year-old makes it seem as though he’s ready to finish out his UFC contract with one more fight sometime down the line.

A lengthy post to Instagram on Monday saw McGregor mainly discuss his religious faith and recent resistance to sin. But, as part of the post, he said that he is set to undergo surgery. The specific surgery was not disclosed.

McGregor said that, once he is healed up, the focus will go to finishing up his UFC contract, which has one fight remaining on it.

“Surgery. Prehab. Return to martial arts practice. Go again. Final fight of the contract,” he said. “Please God!”

Prior to his appearance last weekend, McGregor said that UFC planned to have his last fight with the company in April 2027. The way McGregor lost last weekend obviously calls into question whether that date is still the plan.

If he returns for one more fight, McGregor will be hunting for his first win since January 2020, when he put away Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds. He has since suffered three losses, two of which have come via injury.
