AEW’s first-ever Redemption pay-per-view is taking shape.
Four new matchups were mentioned for the July 26 event on Wednesday night’s episode of Dynamite. A total of five matchups are now expected to take place as part of the show at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The biggest reveal on Wednesday night was an upcoming showdown that will see AEW World Champion Kenny Omega defend his title against Kevin Knight. The first-time pairing was made following a face-to-face confrontation this week.
Knight argued that he’s due for a title shot, as MJF promised him an opportunity back when he had the belt. Omega said that, while he isn’t going to honor someone else’s agreement, he’d give Knight an opportunity because he’s a “nice guy.”
A win for Knight, while highly unlikely, would make him a rare double champ in AEW. He currently also holds the TNT title, which he earned at Dynasty in April.
In another big first-time singles meeting, AEW International Champion Kyle Fletcher will defend against ROH world champ Bandido. After getting provoked by Bandido halfway through the show, Fletcher called for the PPV fight.
Andrade El Idolo will try to take a piece of gold from the Don Callis Family when he challenges AEW National Champion Mark Davis. Andrade earned the opportunity after beating Callis Family’s Jake Doyle this week.
Along with the title bouts, it was confirmed that Chris Jericho will try to get revenge in a rematch against Tommaso Ciampa. Jericho lost to Ciampa at Beach Break, but this time he’ll be unleashing his “Painmaker” alter ego as he tries to get back the win.
Here’s an updated look at Redemption, which also includes a showdown between AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla and Willow Nightingale:
- Kenny Omega vs. Kevin Knight (AEW World Championship)
- Thekla vs. Willow Nightingale (AEW Women’s World Championship)
- Kyle Fletcher vs. Bandido (AEW International Championship)
- Mark Davis vs. Andrade El Idolo (AEW National Championship)
- Jericho vs. Tommaso Ciampa
