The Conglomeration remain trios champs following a showdown in Montreal.
The Buy In broadcast for the inaugural AEW Redemption pay-per-view saw trios champs The Conglomeration (Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly and Orange Cassidy) defend their belts against The Lethal Twist (Jay Lethal, Blake Christian & Lee Johnson), earning the pinfall win in a 12-minute showdown.
The match had a lengthy duel down the stretch between Cassidy and Lethal. Cassidy came close to finishing the bout numerous times, reversing a King’s Elbow from Lethal into a pin attempt at one point, and connecting with a Stundog Millionaire later on.
A Lethal Injection was hit on Cassidy and threatened to end the bout, but a referee distraction caused a pin count to get delayed significantly. This pause allowed Strong to get back into the ring and break the count before it hit three.
Strong remained in the ring, and alongside O’Reilly, helped with the finishing sequence. Strong delivered a Heartage to Lethal, then tossed Cassidy onto him for the pinfall result.
The Conglomeration have held the trios titles since Dynasty, when they dethroned The Dogs in Vancouver. After defending the belts six times on TV, they returned to Canada this weekend for a second PPV card victory.
The Lethal Twist have been teaming on AEW and ROH programming since March. They were looking for their first championship win in this performance.
Sunday’s pre-show also included a tribute to the famous French-Canadian wrestling family, the Rougeaus. AEW’s Matt Menard welcomed Raymond and Jaque Rougeau to the ring, who both provided quick speeches in French. The segment was cut off by Rocky Romero of the Don Callis Family, who was beaten up by the Rougeaus and Menard to end the segment.
