Arman Tsarukyan will get his shot at the UFC Lightweight Championship early next year.

Tsarukyan was supposed to challenge Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title last year at UFC 311. However, he was pulled due to a health issue. The 30-year-old has been on a six-fight win streak in the UFC, having last beaten Maurício Ruffy by knockout at UFC 331 on Sept. 19.

In an interview with MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck, Tsarukyan claimed that his next fight would be for the UFC Lightweight Title.

If they wouldn’t give me a title at 155, I would go down (to 145), but as I heard, I’m going to fight for the title next. So I’m going to be in my division and stay there. I don’t want to move anywhere, because I feel like lightweight is the perfect weight class for me. I want to be the best ever lightweight fighter, and break all records there.

Tsarukyan added that he had been told the fight would take place at the “beginning of next year.”

There have been rumors about current UFC Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje possibly retiring or defending the title against Ilia Topuria. Dana White nor any UFC official has confirmed anything regarding the lightweight title.

Tsarukyan remains active for Real American Freestyle, with a matchup with Dillon Danis at RAF 14 this weekend.
