Andrade El Idolo has banked a future AEW world title opportunity.
Andrade won a Casino Gauntlet match at Sunday’s All In pay-per-view, securing him a title opportunity sometime down the line.
The result, a 21-minute win, saw Andrade beat out 10 other competitors in AEW’s unique match stipulation. A Casino Gauntlet sees wrestlers enter in a staggered, Rumble-style format, continuing to battle until someone earns a pinfall or submission.
MJF weakened Nick Wayne late in the match, kicking him in the groin then connecting with a Heatseeker. Andrade capitalized on this moment, knocking MJF out of the ring with his Dia de los Muertos spinning back elbow, then pinning a hurt Wayne.
The match also featured Speedball Mike Bailey, Tommaso Ciampa, Jericho, Mark Davis, Komander, Mistico, Daniel Garcia, and Jungle Jack Perry.
The fast match was full of fun moments: Rivals Ciampa and Jericho brawled on the ramp before they could even get to the ring, Komander went on a wild run of moves once he got into the match, MJF had a reunion with rival Mistico, and more.
Andrade will be challenging for the AEW World Championship for the first time in his career later this year. Sunday was his first successful #1 contender’s match appearance, falling short in two prior title opportunity showdowns.
Along with his world title campaign, Andrade is also still the AEW National Champion, a belt he won off Mark Davis last month.
Andrade’s future opponent will be decided in tonight’s main event when Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay square off.
