Cope & Cage’s title reign has survived one of its biggest challenges yet.
Adam Copeland and Christian Cage overcame Matt & Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks on Sunday night, retaining the AEW World Tag Team Championships at All In inside Wembley Stadium.
A 20-minute showdown between the two decorated tag duos ended with dirty tactics from Cage. While the referee’s view was obstructed, Cage used a cast on his forearm as a weapon, hurting the Bucks. A use of the brace provided the opening for Copeland to score a spear for the pinfall victory.
The Young Bucks were hoping to start a record-setting fourth reign with the AEW World Tag Team Championships, more than any other duo in the company’s history. Instead, they remain tied with FTR for most reigns, at three.
Cope and Cage started their first tag title reign together in 25 years when they won AEW gold earlier this year. They captured the belts at Double or Nothing in March by beating FTR, then later retained against The Dogs and the Death Riders in recent months.
Shortly after Cope & Cage retained their belts, a conveyor belt of challengers made their way out to the ring. The Motor City Machine Guns, FTR, and the Kofi and Austin Creed duo of New Level, who only made their AEW debut earlier in the night, hit the ring for a face-to-face.
