After help from Sting, a tricky hands-behind-back sequence and a pair of death-defying dives, Darby Allin regained the TNT Championship on Sunday night.
Allin took down long-time rival Kevin Knight in a Falls Count Anywhere match as part of AEW’s All In card from Wembley Stadium.
Allin found himself outnumbered early in the match, as Knight leaned on help from Don Callis Family allies Jake Doyle and Brian Cage as part of an attack. Allin’s arms were tied behind his back during this sequence, limiting (albeit not entirely stopping) his moveset.
In for the save was Steve Borden, son of wrestling legend Sting, who has considered Allin a mentor as of late. After more backup was needed, the retired legend himself, Sting, hit the ring and took out all of Allin’s enemies with a baseball bat.
After getting permission from his father, Borden did a huge crossbody dive off the top of a ladder onto Davis and Doyle, eliminating them from the match.
The Falls Count Anywhere finale emerged on the venue’s towering stage, where Allin once again delivered a scary, breathtaking spot.
With Knight laid out on stage, Allin climbed one of the venue’s huge scaffolding setups and delivered a huge Coffin Drop, putting them both through the stage. Then, as Knight was being loaded up on a stretcher, in a callback to Double or Nothing, Allin dove off-stage and onto the stretcher, earning him the pinfall win in 15 minutes.
Knight’s feud with Allin started at Double or Nothing, turning heel and attacking Allin shortly after he lost a title match against MJF. Don Callis Family’s Knight had held the TNT title since April, when he won a Casino Gauntlet bout to capture the then-vacant belt.
Allin is now a three-time TNT champ. Along with Cody Rhodes, Sammy Guevara and Wardlow, Allin joins a small class of names who have three-peated the title.
