YOH is going from one Robbie to another this week.
Shortly after defending his IWGP Heavyweight Championship on Wednesday night against Robbie X, YOH accepted a challenge against Robbie Eagles for NJPW’s King of Pro Wrestling Ryogoku Sumo Hall event scheduled for Monday.
YOH prevailed in a competitive Korakuen Hall main event against Britain’s Robbie X on Wednesday night. After dodging a top-rope X-Express from Robbie, YOH scored a near fall with a series of superkicks.
While Robbie answered back with a Spanish Fly, he was caught mid-air with another superkick from YOH, then put away with a Rainmaker Knee into a Direct Drive.
The 25-minute performance was YOH’s third time defending the title since dethroning DOUKI as part of this year’s Dominion card.
Shortly after his win, Eagles came to the ring and challenged him to a title match. YOH politely declined, saying it didn’t seem right to face one Robbie after beating another.
Eagles forced YOH into accepting a match for Monday’s card, locking in a submission and only letting go once the champ agreed to the short-notice challenge.
The upcoming match sees Eagles look to reclaim the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, which he briefly held in 2021.
Earlier on Wednesday’s show, AEW’s MJF challenged Ryohei Oiwa to an upcoming match. Also, Vietnam’s Ares made his NJPW in-ring debut as part of a tag match alongside Yota Tsuji.
