MJF shared his thoughts about John Cena’s heel turn as well.
Coming up on March 9th is AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. One of the bouts on the marquee is MJF versus Hangman Adam Page.
To promote the pay-per-view, MJF joined SI Media With Jimmy Traina. He was asked about his decision to stay with AEW and sign a new contract with the company. He stated that he’ll still be ‘absurdly young’ by the time the current contract expires.
For the people who are panicked, ‘Oh my gosh, am I ever gonna get to see MJF outside of All Elite Wrestling? Am I ever gonna get to see MJF in this place? That place?’ Look, the reason I was paid top dollar is because I’m a generational talent. I won the bidding war. WWE didn’t win the bidding war, All Elite Wrestling didn’t win the bidding war. I won the bidding war. Because I am making an absurd amount of money. By the time the contract is up, I will still be absurdly young and then I will be able, once again, to make an absurd amount of money in the next bidding war and you know who’s going to win again? Me… I am going to be very rich and very young by the time the contract is over.
Elsewhere during the discussion, MJF was asked for his thoughts about John Cena’s heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber. While sharing his thoughts, he played ‘devil’s advocate’ and defended musician and songwriter Travis Scott being in the ring for the moment because it may have led to more mainstream media outlets covering the story.
I get really annoyed when people in either company pretend that they don’t — let me put it this way: Yes, I was watching it (WWE Elimination Chamber). I was watching it live, it was an awesome moment (John Cena’s heel turn) and everybody should think it was an awesome moment because it was, point blank, end of discussion.
Should Travis Scott be burning sage in the corner? Is that what you were gonna bring up?… So I’m going to play devil’s advocate because I am the devil, right? Somebody might have said that about Dennis Rodman when he was standing there with the n.W.o. back in the day. But because Dennis Rodman was there, ESPN picked it up, serious news affiliates picked it up that ordinarily wouldn’t give professional wrestling the time of day because they’re f*cking morons. They think they’re above pro wrestling. Everything is pro wrestling. So Travis Scott being there, even though people like me or you or wrestling fans who have been watching and are just like, ‘What the f*ck is this guy doing here? I don’t have an emotional attachment to him.’ We might feel that way. But a Travis Scott fan, who works at ESPN or FOX or MSNBC or CNN does not feel that way and they might go, oh sh*t. Travis Scott was involved in this. We should talk about this, right? So, that’s me playing devil’s advocate… But I’m just simply playing devil’s advocate. I’m not even saying these are my feelings. I am just playing devil’s advocate.
The last time MJF and Hangman Adam Page competed in a singles match against one another was on the Thanksgiving edition of AEW Dynamite in 2019.
