AEW’s Buddy Matthews has revealed he is undergoing surgery to repair an ankle injury he sustained in February.

Matthews has been sidelined since the injury, which he suffered at AEW Grand Slam Australia on February 15.

On Thursday, he posted a story to his Instagram account, which shows him alongside his wife, WWE’s Rhea Ripley, and has the accompanying text: “Update: heading into surgery to repair my ankle.”

Back in April, Matthews told Chris Van Vliet he had rolled the ankle during his entrance at Grand Slam Australia for his match with Kazuchika Okada. He added that an MRI scan showed a partial ligament tear and cartilage damage.

No further details on the nature of the surgery or a timeline for a return are currently available.
