Yuji Nagata to meet Hiroshi Tanahashi on September 7 in Chiba

Yuji Nagata will get one more match with Hiroshi Tanahashi next month.

New Japan made a slew of announcements after the G1 Climax, including Nagata’s scheduled match against Tanahashi at the sixteenth Nagata-produced event on September 7 in Chiba.

Their history dates back to 2001, when they first met in a tag bout and had their first singles match in January 2002.

Tanahashi’s first reign as IWGP Heavyweight Champion was ended by Nagata in April 2007. Tanahashi would rebound by beating Nagata in the final of that year’s G1 Climax and regain the title from Nagata that year.

The two have not had a 1-on-1 match since the G1 Climax in 2017, which was Nagata’s last G1.

The show will stream on New Japan World on September 7 at 3 a.m. ET.
