Hiromu Takahashi scores tag win ahead of TNT title fight
This week’s episode of AEW Collision, a go-home episode ahead of Sunday’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view, opened with eight-man tag action. The Don Callis Family’s Hechicero, Josh Alexander, Lance Archer, and Rocky Romero faced off against the team of SkyFlight (Dante Martin, Darius Martin, and Scorpio Sky) alongside NJPW’s Hiromu Takahashi.
Dante worked his way to a hot tag after a commercial break, finding space after delivering a hurricanrana to Archer. He tagged in Sky, who was able to connect with a pop-up powerbomb onto Romero as part of a combination of moves. After getting Alexander out of the ring, Sky hit a cutter and then a Dragon Sleeper.
Hechicero and Alexander wiped out Sky’s teammates, then got back into the ring, stopping his hot tag momentum. Archer connected with a Black Hole Slam, then Alexander hit a DDT to Sky. Romero used Archer for an Electric Chair Drop, earning him a two-count from a pin attempt.
Romero hit a Sliced Bread, but the pin was broken up by Takahashi, who got back into the mix. The NJPW star had a fun sequence with Hechicero as part of a multi-man scramble in the ring after the pin break.
Archer tried taking out Top Flight with a double chokeslam, but was instead suplexed by the duo. Sky tagged Takahashi in against Romero, giving the multi-time junior heavyweight champ a chance to shine.
Takahashi picked Romero up but had to put the vet down after getting his eyes raked. Sky got back into the ring to help out Takahashi, then did a dive to the outside alongside Top Flight to take out everyone at ringside. Takahashi then scored his Timebomb finisher against Romero for the pinfall win in 12 and a half minutes.
Kyle Fletcher, who will defend his TNT Championship against Takahashi at Forbidden Door on Sunday, appeared on the ramp in the post-match to face off with his London opponent.
Another vignette played teasing the return of HOOK. If you haven’t seen, the videos that have been made for this build have been quite creative.
Megan Bayne beats ex-WWE talent Isla Dawn
The next match saw Glasgow’s own Isla Dawn make her AEW in-ring debut, going one-on-one against Megan Bayne. Dawn got her own entrance here, a nice spotlight for the ex-WWE talent, who was making just her second appearance since departing the promotion earlier this year.
Dawn got a couple of moves in early and tried to mount a comeback at the four-minute mark, but it was otherwise a one-sided beatdown for the former AEW Women’s World Champion challenger. Bayne eventually put an end to the match in just under five minutes with a powerbomb.
Willow Nightingale, Queen Aminata overcome Death Triangle
The AEW women’s division continued to be showcased in the next segment, as the duo of Queen Aminata and Willow Nightingale teamed up to face Triangle of Madness members Julia Hart and Skye Blue.
Nightingale was on a roll as the match crossed the five-minute mark, taking out Blue with a pounce, then scoring a spinebuster onto Hart for a two-count. Blue and Hart double-teamed against Nightingale to get back in control with a DDT. Nightingale wiped both out with a double clothesline, then tagged Aminata into the match.
Aminata dropped Blue with a double chop to the chest, then a nasty Air Raid Crash for a near fall. Aminata climbed to the top for a double stomp, but Blue rolled out of the way. Moments later, however, she took out Blue with a swinging neckbreaker.
Nightingale and Hart joined the fight in the ring for a fast-paced sequence. Blue and Hart tried for stereo submission moves, but Nightingale and Aminata ran into eachother to break the holds. As Nightingale and Hart battled at ringside, Aminata scored a headbutt and then an Off With Her Head running head kick to win the match in nine minutes.
The missing third member of Death Triangle, Thekla, appeared in the post-match to attack Aminata. Nightingale came in for the save, but found herself outnumbered after Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne returned to the ring to join the fight.
Harley Cameron, wearing a facemask for a broken nose, came to the ring in hopes of saving the babyfaces. However, she too found herself struggling. Kris Statlander came in last and was able to clear the heels out of the ring, standing tall alongside Cameron as the segment came to an end.
Zack Sabre Jr. beats “The Best Wrestler Alive”
Backstage, Daniel Garcia was asked about cornering Nigel McGuinness this weekend when he challenges Zack Sabre Jr. at Forbidden Door. Garcia seemed frustrated about losing a four-way for a shot at ZSJ, but noted his support for Nigel this weekend.
Max Caster, who proclaims he is the “Best Wrestler Alive” despite being winless in the AEW ring this year, appeared for his first-ever international open challenge in the next segment. The Glasgow crowd was embracing of Caster’s long-winded chant (“Let’s go Max you’re the best wrestler a-live”). Unfortunately, Caster said he couldn’t tell if the Glasgow crowd was doing his chant as he wasn’t able to understand their accents.
Who answered the open challenge this week? IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. was in the mood for a tune-up just days before his Forbidden Door appearance, it seems.
Caster struggled against Sabre Jr.’s technical style, getting tapped out by the defending NJPW champ just under two-and-a-half minutes into the bout. Sabre Jr. went face-to-face with Nigel McGuinness afterward. The two shook hands, and McGuinness, wanting to build tension, wasn’t quick to let go of the handshake.
Anthony Bowens came to the ring to attack former tag partner Caster after the match. Frustrated by the crowd chanting Caster’s name, Bowens continued to throw punches down against the former Acclaimed member. The attack only stopped after Billy Gunn came to the ring to scold Bowens for his actions.
Backstage, Harley Cameron said she has a gift for Kris Statlander for helping her tonight. Cameron asked if Statlander had gotten her $100,000 from a four-way she won on Collision earlier this week. Statlander said she hasn’t been paid, as it was meant to come out of the Young Bucks’ paycheck.
Cameron went into the “Male Extras” locker room in hopes of getting the $100k, but was unsuccessful, so, no gift from her. But in came the Death Riders, with Moxley heading into the room. He left the extras room and handed a bag to Statlander, presumably with the prize money she was owed.
G1 winner Konosuke Takeshita beats Tomohiro Ishii in hard-hitting battle
In a match that many were looking forward to on this week’s episode, 2025 G1 Climax Winner Konosuke Takeshita made his return to AEW TV, facing Tomohiro Ishii in singles action. Takeshita had been off AEW TV since mid-July due to the lengthy NJPW tour taking up his time.
As is usually the case for both guys, the bout had a hard-hitting start. Takeshita sent Ishii to the mat after running off the ropes with an elbow, ending what was a forearm battle before then. Ishii followed Takeshita to ringside to deliver chops early in the match.
The fight went to the ring apron, where Takeshita escaped a suplex then scored a draping DDT onto the floor as the show went to a break.
Takeshita and Ishii were back to trading hard shots as the show returned. A striking exchange came to an end after Takeshita scored a tombstone piledriver, then a German Suplex.
Takeshita scored a running knee, but Ishii caught the strike and reversed it into a powerbomb for a two-count. Takeshita came running off the ropes but was taken out by a hard clothesline by Ishii, who got another near fall.
Ishii hit the ropes, but Takeshita used the momentum for a Blue Thunder Bomb with lots of torque. Takeshita picked up Ishii as the crowd chanted “This is awesome.” Ishii escaped a move from Takeshita and connected with another hard lariat, but it still wasn’t enough to beat Takeshita.
Takeshita escaped a brainbuster and instead landed a Poisonrana, but Ishii immediately returned to his feet after taking the move. Ishii scored a head kick, but Takeshita was able to stay on his feet after the blow, scoring a knee strike to drop Ishii before he also fell to the mat.
The crowd gave a standing ovation for the match by this point. Takeshita was knocked back with a headbutt, but answered back with a hard knee strike to the head for a two-count. Takeshita picked up Ishii for a Raging Fire, earning him a pinfall win in 10 minutes. Takeshita’s incredible summer rolls on, both performance and results-wise.
Big Bill earns quick win against Subculture’s Mark Andrews
Big Bill was in singles action next, taking on ex-WWE and TNA talent Mark Andrews in singles action.
Andrews resisted a chokeslam from the towering Big Bill, but moments later was caught by a Black Hole Slam, which put an end to the bout in just under two minutes. Bill didn’t get enough violence from his win, so he chokeslammed Andrews through a pair of steel chairs afterward.
Commentary reminded us that Bill, alongside Bryan Keith, is in a feud with the Bang Bang Gang.
The broadcast announced four matches for the Forbidden Door Zero Hour pre-show:
- Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs & Katsuyori Shibata vs. Clark Connors, Drilla Moloney & Robbie X (AEW World Trios Championships)
- Action Andretti, Lio Rush, Hechicero & Josh Alexander vs. Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong, Yuya Uemura & El Desperado
- Thekla, Skye Blue, Julia Hart & Megan Bayne vs. Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander, Harley Cameron & Queen Aminata
- Michael Oku, Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight vs. Ricochet, Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona
Gates of Agony take down the Grizzled Young Vets
The co-main event of the night saw Gates of Agony’s Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona face James Drake and Zack Gibson, the Grizzled Young Veterans. Ricochet was at ringside in support of GoA during this match.
Drake gave a hot tag to Gibson as the show returned from a break, coming in with a head full of steam against Kaun. After diving to the outside onto Liona, Gibson got back into the ring and took out Kaun with a Saito Suplex. A pin attempt was broken up by Liona, who found himself hit with a double-team Coast-to-Coast, with Drake flying off the top rope to deliver a dropkick.
Gibson scored a Lungblower to Kaun, then tagged Drake back in for a double-team suplex, causing a near fall. GYV’s momentum had Ricochet stressed as he watched on. Back in tagged Gibson. GYV tried for a double-team move out of the corner, but it didn’t go as planned. Drake jumped off the top but missed Kaun, causing Liona to launch him out of the ring with a pounce.
Liona scored a hip attack in the corner to Gibson, Kaun followed up with a double knees, then Gates of Agony hit their double-team Open The Gates slam finisher for the win in nine minutes. Drake and Gibson had a good showing, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Ricochet-led faction.
With assistance from Okada, The Young Bucks defeat Paragon
The main event of the night saw former EVPs Matt and Nick Jackson face Paragon’s Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong. The Young Bucks continued to get disrespected by the promotion in the pre-match ceremonies, given a jobber entrance and billed under the wrong titles once again (“Rod & Todd”).
The Bucks had some troubles early in this match: Early on, Nick tried to run in to even the odds, but instead tripped on the bottom rope, causing him to fall face-first. Frustratingly kicking the commentary table after, he hurt his foot.
But, despite some awkward moments from the Bucks, who have been reeling ever since losing their EVP status at All In, they remained in a fast-paced battle against Paragon.
O’Reilly had a hot tag at the 10-minute mark of the match, taking on both Bucks at once, hitting a double-Dragonscrew legwhip at one point. After leaping off the ring apron for a nasty dropkick onto Matt at ringside, he scored a double-team suplex onto Nick in the ring.
O’Reilly applied an armbar to Nick, but the Buck was able to escape by putting his feet on the bottom rope. Paragon tried for a high-low double-team, but Nick escaped the sequence, allowing the Bucks to start a Superkick party. O’Reilly was knocked into the ropes after eating a pair of Superkicks, but exploded forward with a double clothesline to take out the Bucks right after.
Matt powered out of a guillotine choke from O’Reilly with a pair of Northern Lights Suplexes. Strong tried to stop a third one from Matt, but instead got caught in a double Northern Lights Suplex. Matt went flying to the outside with a corkscrew onto Strong, then got back into the ring for a double-team sliced bread, but it wasn’t enough to put away O’Reilly.
Nick came flying off the ropes for a Meltzer Driver, but instead ate a flying knee to the head from Strong. Paragon scored a series of moves onto Matt, including their usual High-Low attack, but a follow-up pin attempt was stopped by Nick, who landed a Superkick.
Strong wiped out Nick with an End of Heartache, then O’Reilly put Matt in an Ankle Lock, hoping to score a submission win.
Don Callis came to the ring to distract the referee on the ring apron. Kazuchika Okada waltzed to the ring as this happened to hit O’Reilly with a Rainmaker, then help the Young Bucks score double Superkicks to Strong. The Bucks then hit a Meltzer Driver to O’Reilly for a pinfall win in 15 minutes.
A post-match beatdown was interrupted by Okada’s Forbidden Door opponent, Swerve Strickland. Strickland tried to take on the Bucks and Okada, but he was greatly outnumbered. Okada gave Strickland a Rainmaker just before the show went off air.
