Kyle Fletcher promises to hurt Hangman Page before All Out
A special three-hour AEW special, September To Remember, from the Canada Life Place in London, Ontario, Canada, opened with a contract signing. Meeting for the final time before their match at All Out on Saturday night, AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page and Kyle Fletcher made it official in a conference moderated by Tony Schiavone.
It wasn’t Fletcher or Page who got in a word first, but instead Don Callis, who oversees TNT Champion Fletcher. Callis said that he has been looking forward to a time when he can take a title off Page ever since Hangman dethroned Kenny Omega back in 2021, when Callis managed him.
Page reminded Fletcher why he wanted the Don Callis Family banned from ringside for this Saturday’s match: Because he wants Fletcher to show his true potential, unobstructed from interference. Page said that the contract for the match mentions harsh consequences for any Callis family interference: Not only will the match get called off, but Fletcher will be stripped of his TNT title.
Callis seemed disturbed by the rule, Fletcher not so much. “You think that scares me, Hangman?” he replied. “I am scared of nothing.” Fletcher said AEW doesn’t need Hangman anymore. “It needs the Protostar, Kyle Fletcher.”
Fletcher signed the contract. The paper went over to Hangman, who wanted to get the last word in before he signed as well. “The thing that you don’t know yet is how it’ll feel the morning after All Out. It will crush you, it will ruin you … I believe you when you tell me that you will give me everything you have, but it won’t be enough.”
Page said that Fletcher does with the feeling of defeat this weekend will define him. “Do not disappoint me.” Page signed the contract as well – the world title is set.
Fletcher stood up and noted that he had one more thing to say. Face to face with Page, Fletcher promised that he’s leaving Toronto with the TNT and AEW world titles, but also had a promise about tonight: “I’m going to leave you beaten, bloodied, and unable to walk out of here on your own two feet.”
Fletcher stormed out after the ominous threat.
Death Riders give Jon Moxley win ahead of All Out assignment
The first match of the night saw former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley go head-to-head with Roderick Strong. This was Moxley’s final in-ring appearance before he meets Darby Allin in a Coffin Match this weekend.
Before Strong put his hands on Moxley, he went flying out of the ring with a baseball slide dropkick to wipe out Daniel Garcia, the newest Death Riders member. Moxley and Strong brawled at ringside to get things started, with Strong dropping Moxley onto the top of a barricade before they returned to the ring.
Strong went face-to-face with Marina Shafir a few minutes into the match, distracting him enough to let Moxley attack him. Moxley launched Strong over a barricade and into a crowd before the show went to its first commercial break.
Strong started to get back into the match as the show returned, stringing together chops and kicks. He was able to land a Death by Roderick as part of a series of moves for a two-count.
Moxley knocked Strong down with a lariat and then scored a piledriver, but it wasn’t enough for the pinfall win. Moxley transitioned into an armbar, although Strong escaped by reaching the ropes.
Moxley and Strong traded stiff forearms in the middle of the ring. Strong came running off the ropes with a head kick and then an Olympic Slam, but Moxley locked in a Bulldog Choke right after taking the slam. Strong worked his way out of the choke with a second Olympic Slam, giving him a two-count.
The fight went over to the corner, where Strong slammed Moxley face-first onto the mat for a two-count. Strong rolled out of the ring with Moxley to avoid a Paradigm Shift. Garcia tried to stop Strong from getting into the ring by grabbing his leg, but Kyle O’Reilly attacked Garcia, allowing Strong to get into the ring.
Strong ran the ropes for a move, but out of nowhere emerged Wheeler Yuta, who tripped up Strong in the ropes as the referee wasn’t looking! Moxley scored a Paradigm Shift then locked in a Bulldog Choke for the submission win in just under 13 minutes. Moxley has some momentum heading into All Out.
In a new clip from Collision, MJF was heard confronting Tony Khan backstage, wanting out of a “Tables ‘n’ Tacks” match this weekend against Mark Briscoe at All Out. An animated-sounding Khan (we couldn’t see them) refused to pull MJF from the match, causing MJF to say Khan will be liable when there is another dead Briscoe.
Bobby Lashley submits Toa Liona in hard-hitting affair
In a preview of six-man tag action set for this Saturday at All Out, Toa Liona faced Bobby Lashley. Liona will team with Gates of Agony partner Bishop Kaun and Ricochet this weekend to face Lashley, MVP and Shelton Benjamin.
The match had a huge bump early, as Liona delivered a nasty Samoan Drop onto the ring apron before a commercial break. Lashley regained control during the break, running Liona into the barricades at ringside. Both of these guys are huge and hit hard, so moves here felt painful to just watch.
Lashley scored a massive slam out of the corner as the show returned. Lashley and Liona traded blows in the middle of the ring, an exchange that came to an end after Lashley landed a belly-to-belly German suplex.
Lashley hit a DDT after a sequence of reversals, then started to set up for a Spear. He began charging forward for the move but then stopped, as Liona rolled out of the ring. Lashley wasn’t going to let Liona take a breather, coming out of the ring and speeding up as he turned the corner for a fast spear onto Liona.
MVP got his hands on Ricochet as the fight went to ringside, dropping him with strikes. Kaun briefly distracted Lashley, but eventually was taken out by a superkick from Benjamin. The distracting sequence at ringside allowed Liona to score a pounce for a two-count.
Lashley locked in a Full Nelson submission, a hold he kept as the fight went to the ground. This eventually caused the referee to end the match via submission in 10 minutes.
Before The Hurt Syndicate’s theme could even start playing, a brawl between the trios broke out. Ricochet and GoA were sent retreating after MVP’s cane was cracked over Ricochet’s back The Hurt Syndicate stood tall as the segment came to a close. I saw this as one of the less important matches on the card, but I honestly enjoyed this match a lot – bravo to both Liona and Lashley.
Cope & Cage send FTR retreating before All Out grudge match
A face-to-face segment was next, as the reunited duo of Adam Copeland and Christian Cage met their All Out opponents, FTR.
FTR were accompanied by a comical number of security guards, who stood at ringside during this segment. Stokely Hathaway warned Copeland and Cage early on that any sort of physicality in this segment would result in highly expensive fines.
Cash Wheeler, focused on Copeland, went off: “Six years ago, we helped you get your career back. Saturday, we take it away for good.”
Dax Harwood said Copeland and Cage were the best tag team at one point because they faced “mediocre” teams who carried them to relevance. He started to list off FTR’s accomplishments, saying that Copeland and Cage should feel thankful to face them.
Copeland eventually heard enough: “Shut the hell up.”
Copeland admitted that FTR are in the all-time tag duo discussions. “Well, welcome to the club, we’ve been here for 25 years.” Copeland listed off the accomplishments that he and Cage have.
“When we drag you into the deep water, and we are raining fists onto your stupid faces and you’re begging for mercy, you will understand why there is only one Cope and Cage,” Copeland said.
Cage grabbed the mic to correct him: “Cage and Cope.”
Cage said that the six-figure fines that they would face for attacking FTR don’t mean a thing to him since he’s rich. Cage absolutely smacked Harwood in the face with a microphone, kicking off a brawl not only between the tag teams but also involving the security. Harwood was absolutely pouring blood from his mouth as the segment came to an end – it does seem like he genuinely got smacked hard by that mic-shot.
Young Bucks punch ticket to All Out
The Young Bucks, who won $500,000 on Dynamite last week, were living large backstage, saying they paid off production for a special entrance. They also handed Renee Paquette $10,000 (total conflict of interest for a reporter, but I digress).
The next match saw The Young Bucks face off against Juice Robinson and Austin Gunn of the Bang Bang Gang, with the winning team appearing in the four-way ladder match for the AEW World Tag Team Championships on Saturday night.
Gunn was isolated early in the match by the Bucks, who were on a roll through the break with combination attacks. Nick attempted to bribe the referee by putting money in his pocket during the bout, but the attempt was unsuccessful – they’re gonna be broke before the show goes off air at this pace.
Robinson finally got a hot tag onto Nick Jackson, scoring a senton, then taking out Matt with a series of strikes. Robinson scored a cannonball in the corner. Gunn tagged back into the bout and came running off the ropes with a lariat, which gave him a two-count.
A sequence at ringside ended with a dive over the top and to the outside onto both Bang Bang Gang members from Nick. The Bucks scored stereo Superkicks to Robinson back in the ring for a two-count.
Matt tagged back in and attempted a BTE-Trigger with Nick, but Robinson ducked the move. Bucks tried for a TK Driver, but Gunn scored a mid-air Flatliner to stop the move. Robinson connected with a Blade Runner on Matt for a near fall – this was a very convincing near fall.
The match went to the corner, where Robinson came off the top with a hurricanrana. Matt was quick to reverse the rana into a pin attempt, which Robinson then reversed as well, with the help of Gunn. All four wrestlers were back in the ring at this point. Gunn was dumped to the outside. Robinson tried to knock Nick out of the ring with a lariat, but Nick landed on the ring apron, putting him in perfect position to score a TK-Driver with Matt, earning the Young Bucks a pinfall win in 11 minutes. The Bucks are heading to All Out after an entertaining, fast-paced tag bout.
Mascara Dorada gets past The Beast Mortos in high-flying show-stealer, earns Unified title shot
A title shot was on the line in the next match, as The Beast Mortos and Mascara Dorada met in a singles bout. The winner in this match was set to join a three-way for the AEW Unified Championship on Saturday, a match that will involve Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita.
This match worked at a fast pace from the very start. Dorada came off the top with a flashy armdrag. Mortos sent Dorada flying to the outside with a shoulder block, then came through the ropes with a torneo. He tossed Dorada into a barricade as the show went to a break.
Dorada knocked down Mortos with another impressive armdrag as the show returned. The match went to the ring apron, where Dorada dropped Mortos with a Mexican Destroyer. Dorada followed up with a torneo over the top and to the outside, keeping the pressure on Mortos. Bryan Danielson was absolutely loving this on commentary.
Dorada tried for a 450 Splash, but Mortos avoided the move. Mortos picked up Dorada for a massive backbreaker. He tried for another move, but Dorada reversed it into a second Destroyer. Mortos reversed a move from Dorada into a huge slam.
Mortos tried again for an Argentine Backbreaker, but Dorada instead hit a Crucifix Bomb. Dorada tried coming off the ropes with a Destroyer, but this one didn’t really land. Mortos looked for a roll-up but only got two.
Mortos went to the top but was taken down by a hurricanrana from Dorada. Dorada went for the cover, but Mortos powered back up at the one count. Dorada scored a backbreaker, then came off the top with a Shooting Star Press for the pinfall win. This was an incredible showcase for him that stole the show, continuing what has been a really strong show thus far. It’ll be Dorada vs. Okada vs. Takeshita on Saturday.
Okada and Takeshita appeared on the ramp in the post-match, getting in each other’s faces as Don Callis tried to calm his talents down. Dorada took down Okada with a dive off the top, then stared down Takeshita as the segment came to an end.
Statlander, Hayter, Thekla join Toni Storm’s monologue
Toni Storm appeared on stage for the next segment. Storm will try to keep her reign as AEW Women’s World Champion alive when she faces Jamie Hayter, Thekla and Kris Statlander in a four-way in just a few days.
Storm sounded somewhat accepting that her reign could very well end this weekend at first, as she has to overcome the odds to remain champ.
“If this is indeed the end of my reign, then it has been the honor of my life,” Storm said.
“But ladies, if you really want to take my title, then I suggest you burn my body to the ground and then you pack my ashes into a little pipe, then you take a big fat puff, because nobody will get me and you as high as I can, darling.”
Hayter charged into the frame to grab the mic from Storm to remind her of their past, and that she hits hard. Statlander arrived next, saying that on Saturday she’ll prove that nobody can stop her.
Just as Storm attempted to wrap up her promo she was cut off by the music of Thekla, who is scheduled to face Queen Aminata in a No Holds Barred match next. Security kept the three other women away from Thekla to avoid a pre-match brawl.
Thekla overcomes rival Queen Aminata in No Holds Barred match
Queen Aminata and Thekla were ready to go extreme for their No Holds Barred match in the next segment. Just a minute into their match, the ring was full of chairs, a kendo stick and a garbage can.
Aminata was sent retreating to ringside after getting struck in the body with a kendo stick. The brawl went into the crowd, where Thekla came flying off the top of a barricade to hit Aminata in the head with a trash can top. They continued to go through the London crowd as the show went to commercials.
These two kept going hard during the picture-in-picture: Aminata got Thekla in the stomach with a kendo stick, Thekla hit her again with the top of a garbage can. Thekla threw more steel chairs into the ring.
Thekla took the belt off her jeans and started to choke Thekla with it. Right after the show returned, Aminata scored a draping cutter onto a trash can – this was one of the nastiest moments in the match, it looked awesome.
Thekla struck Aminata over the back with a chair, then speared her onto another set-up chair, this looked really painful. They both worked back up to their feet while exchanging strikes, but Thekla was knocked back down after taking a headbutt.
The fight went over to the corner, where Thekla smacked Aminata over the head with the trash can lid, then scored a superplex. Thekla came charging forward for another move, but had a steel chair thrown at her head by Aminata.
Aminata scored a fisherman buster onto steel chairs, but only got a two-count from it. Aminata came out of the corner with a leg drop, although Thekla avoided it.
Thekla was quick to get up after dodging the top rope move, scoring a curbstop onto steel chairs for the pinfall win in 10 minutes. Thekla won in an incredibly physical and fast extreme rules match. This was scary, but fun while it lasted. Thekla heads into All Out with a win, but also definitely as the most banged up out of all four women.
Thekla called out Toni Storm after her win, causing the champ to hit the ring for a brawl. Not far behind were Jamie Hayter and Kris Statlander, who started fighting at ringside as well. The rest of Death Triangle ran in to help Thkela in a beatdown against Storm. At ringside, Wheeler Yuta attempted to come to Statlander’s aid but was brushed off.
Storm was able to send Death Triangle retreating. As she turned around, she went face-to-face with Hayter, who nearly struck her in the head. They were pulled apart as the segment came to an end.
Outside the venue, Hangman Page was seen warning Top Flight about possible attacks from the Don Callis Family during their match later against Hechicero & Josh Alexander.
Issues in The Matriarchy lead to JetSpeed win
Another spot in the AEW World Tag Team Championships four-way ladder match was confirmed next, as the JetSpeed duo of Kevin Knight and Mike Bailey faced Kip Sabian and Killswitch.
Sabian helped give his team the advantage before a break, dumping Bailey to the outside, then delivering a springboard moonsault to the floor. JetSpeed started to regain momentum as the show returned, including an impressive hurricanrana out of the corner from Knight onto Killswitch.
Bailey got a two-count from a standing Shooting Star Press to Killswitch. JetSpeed avoided a double chokeslam from Killswitch. Knight landed a Pendulum DDT then Bailey scored a head kick for a pin, but Sabian broke up the pin attempt.
Sabian took out Knight with a DDT, but was hit with a moonsault double knee drop from Bailey moments later. Bailey escaped another chokeslam from Killswitch, but after getting nailed with a headbutt, was finally hit with the move.
Troubles between Sabian and Killswitch, which were shown early on, started to boil over late in this match. Sabian tagged in by slapping Killswitch in the face, enraging the masked beast. Sabian put his feet on the ropes in a pin attempt, but a frustrated Killswitch swept his legs off the ropes. Sabian tried to tag out, but Killswitch dropped off the ring apron, leaving Sabian to fend for himself against JetSpeed.
Knight came off the top with a clothesline, then Bailey scored a spinning heel kick, earning JetSpeed the pinfall in 12 minutes. Dysfunction between Killswitch and Sabian means the duo won’t be heading to All Out. JetSpeed, Brodido, and The Young Bucks are all confirmed for the four-way ladder match on Saturday.
Backstage, Big Bill warned that he would expose Eddie Kingston as a fraud if he showed up for their match at All Out.
Riho gets pre-All Out win, but suffers post-match attack from Moné
In a pre-taped interview, Darby Allin asked Bryan Danielson to promise that he won’t get involved in his Coffin Match this weekend against Jon Moxley. Danielson said he would stay hands-off, only on one condition. Danielson whispered something in Allin’s ear. Allin shook his hand and said he would fulfill his side of the deal, whatever that mysterious demand was.
The co-main event of the night saw Riho take on Robyn Renegade. Mercedes Moné, who will put her TBS Championship on the line against Riho this weekend, was ringside on commentary for the match.
Riho sent Renegade to the outside with a dropkick just a minute in, then came off the top and to the outside with a crossbody before the show went to a quick break.
Renegade got some moves in during the commercials and after the show returned, including a nasty stomp to the floor in the corner. Riho started to get back into the bout with a snap German, then a Crucifix Bomb. Riho stared down Moné as she went for the pinfall following the Crucifix Bomb, earning her the victory in just under five minutes.
Renegade distracted Riho after the match, giving Moné the chance to hit the ring and score a backstabber. Moné raised her TBS title over Riho as the segment came to an end.
Don Callis Family earns spot in ladder match, Kyle Fletcher stands over Hangman Page as show goes off air
In a pre-taped video package, it was announced that Daniel Garcia will face Katsuyori Shibata as part of Saturday’s Tailgate Brawl (one-hour pre-show on TNT before the pay-per-view main card). It would later also be announced that Powerhouse Hobbs and Samoa Joe will face Anthony Henry and JD Drake in a tag bout.
The final match of the night saw Top Flight’s Dante and Darius Martin face off against Hechicero and Josh Alexander of the Don Callis Family. The winning team would go on to Saturday’s four-way ladder match for the AEW World Tag Team Championships, a match also featuring Brodido, The Young Bucks, and JetSpeed.
Dante scored a springboard moonsault onto Alexander after a commercial break, but a follow-up pin attempt was broken up by Hechicero. The Mexican talent was brought to ringside then taken out with a crossbody to the outside from Darius.
Dante got another near fall onto Alexander after a reverse Poisonrana. Alexander delivered an Olympic Slam to Darius, then tagged in Hechicero.
Hechicero and Alexander hit a snazzy DDT double-team move on Dante, but a pin attempt after was stopped by Darius.
Alexander was tossed to ringside. Darius tried for a tope suicida to the outside, but instead had a nasty fall after getting hit in mid-air with an elbow from Alexander.
Dante climbed to the top rope but was knocked off by Alexander. This set Hechicero up for the Guillotine finisher in 10 minutes, advancing the Don Callis duo to All Out.
Lance Archer and Rocky Romero hit the ring afterward, keeping the good vibes for the group going with a post-match beatdown. Joining the fight were JetSpeed, The Young Bucks, and Brodido. Bandido delivered a massive springboard moonsault onto everyone else at ringside.
Christopher Daniels, who was out in support of Top Flight, was brought into the ring by Romero and Archer. They planned to chokeslam Daniels, but the move was stopped after AEW World Champion Hangman Page hit the ring for the save.
Page sent both Romero and Archer out of the ring. He turned around and saw Kyle Fletcher, his opponent at All Out, roll in. They stared eachother down for a moment. Romero grabbed a boot of Page, catching him off guard and giving Fletcher the opening to jump him.
The Don Callis Family set up a table at ringside. Page avoided a brainbuster onto the table and instead tried for a Buckshot Lariat in the ring, but was hit in the head by a title from Fletcher. They went back to the ring apron, where Fletcher delivered a brainbuster through the table, leaving the challenger in Saturday’s main event standing tall as the show came to a close.
