Hiroshi Tanahashi’s retirement match has led to a surge of ticket sales for Wrestle Kingdom 20 after the public on-sale.
NJPW has stated that over 20,000 tickets were purchased after the release of tickets for the January 4, 2026, event at the Tokyo Dome.
The figure already places this year’s show in the range of last year’s announced total of 24,107 attending Wrestle Kingdom 19, with three months until the show.
Wrestle Kingdom 20 will be promoted around Tanahashi’s retirement, which he announced last year, and will end his twenty-six-year career.
The only other announcement for the show is the pro debut of 2020 Olympic gold medalist Aaron Wolf, who is training in the New Japan Dojo and is one of the most high-profile debuts in recent memory.
Tanahashi’s opponent for the show has not been revealed, but he stated this week that it would be a 1-on-1 match, and he won’t be facing Wolf.
