Weekend TV Guide: Sami Zayn fights for title shot in Montreal, Mayu Iwatani celebrates 15 years & more!

This weekend has a great variety to it, event-wise. Whether you want to watch a high-level WWE card, programming from top-tier men’s and women’s action over in Japan, or want to see some of Europe’s rising stars, that’s all available over the next few days. Here’s a quick rundown of this weekend’s schedule for professional wrestling, with details on when and where to watch each show.

Friday

WWE Friday Night Smackdown / 8 p.m. ET / USA Network

This weekend’s programming will begin in just a few minutes with the latest episode of Friday Night Smackdown. In the first of two back-to-back nights inside the Centre Bell in Montreal, Quebec, the blue brand will present a title match between The Wyatt Sicks and the MFTs, who have been feuding for months now. Will the MFTs finally capture gold, or will the Wyatts continue a run which is nearing the 200-day mark, something the belts haven’t seen in years?

Smackdown newcomer Trick Williams will meet Damian Priest, Johnny Gargano and Nathan Frazer’s silly backstage storyline over Axiom’s mask could be resolved in an enjoyable match, a new women’s tag title challenger will be determined in a three-way bout, and much more. Smackdown has produced a few decent episodes to start 2026, at least I’ve found. We’ll find out soon if they can keep that momentum going.

  • Johnny Gargano vs. Nathan Frazer
  • Giulia & Kiana James vs. Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax & Lash Legend (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships)
  • Wyatt Sicks vs. MFTs (WWE World Tag Team Championships)
  • Trick Williams vs. Damian Priest
  • Carmelo Hayes U.S. Open Challenge

Saturday

MARIGOLD New Year Golden Garden – Mayu Iwatani 15th anniversary card / 4 a.m. ET / Wrestle Universe

MARIGOLD talent Mayu Iwatani will celebrate her 15th anniversary as a professional wrestler with an event on Saturday inside the famous Korakuen Hall. This weekend’s lineup from the Joshi promotion will be headlined by Iwatani wagering her newly-won GHC Women’s Championship against Utami Hayashishita, meeting in singles action for the second time since they both left STARDOM to join the brand they’re under currently. Iwatani and Hayashishita are arguably two of the promotion’s best in-ring workers, so this is a match to catch for sure. There will also be a tag title bout earlier in the evening including Seri Yamaoka, a 19-year-old prospect who showed tons of potential in her rookie year.

  • SYOKO Koshino & Hummingbird vs. Nagisa Tachibana & Yuuka Yamazaki
  • Chika Goto & Nao Ishikawa vs. Nagisa Nozaki & Rea Seto
  • Victoria Yuzuki vs. Komomo Minami
  • Miku Aono, Kouki Amarei & Megaton vs. Mai Sakurai, Natsumi Showzuki & Erina Yamanaka
  • Misa Matsui & CHIAKI vs. Seri Yamaoka & Shinno (MARIGOLD Twin Star Championships)
  • Mayu Iwatani vs. Utami Hayashishita (GHC Women’s Championship)

wXw Back To The Roots 2026 / 1 p.m. ET / IndependentWrestling.tv

Craving some mid-day action on Saturday? German brand wXw will be going live this weekend with Back To The Roots. The lineup, available for subscribers of the highly underrated Independent Wrestling TV service, has a few interesting prospects in action. I want to highlight Ricky Sosa, a 21-year-old Dutch talent who has been making a name for himself this year with viral entrance clips and backing it up with great in-ring skills. He’ll be defending his European belt in the middle of this lineup:

  • BK Westbrook vs. Zoltan (16 Carat Gold Qualifying Match)
  • Marc Empire & Robert Dreissker vs. Aleksander Bellamy & Alex Duke
  • Stephanie Maze vs. Ella Envy
  • Ricky Sosa vs. Leon Cage (wXw European Championship)
  • Laurance Roman & Nick Schreier vs. Brendan White & Danny Jones (wXw World Tag Team Championships)
  • Peter Tihanyi vs. Elijah Blum (wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship) (Pure Rules)
  • Dennis Dullnig vs. Hektor Invictus (wXw Shotgun Championship) (Loser Leaves wXw)

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event / 8 p.m. ET / Peacock

WWE will return to the Centre Bell on Saturday night for its quarterly edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The previous SNME is a hard act to follow, as it was headlined by John Cena’s retirement match. This is still a decent trio of bouts: The first challenger for Drew McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Championship will be found in a four-way bout, Cody Rhodes will try to take down rival Jacob Fatu, and RhIYO will put their tag titles up against the surging Judgment Day duo of Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez.

I’m personally most looking forward to the four-way bout, as Sami Zayn will be cheered on by his hometown crowd against a few other top Smackdown babyfaces. I have a feeling a fourth bout will be tacked onto this one before it goes live on Saturday evening.

  • Cody Rhodes vs. Jacob Fatu
  • Rhea Ripley & IYO SKY vs. Liv Morgan & Roxanne Perez (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships)
  • Randy Orton vs. Trick Williams vs. Damian Priest vs. Sami Zayn (Undisputed WWE Championship #1 Contender)

AEW Collision / 8 p.m. ET / TNT

While the plan for this weekend originally was for AEW to continue its residency at the Esports Arena in Arlington, Texas with another episode of Collision, winter weather down south in the U.S. has caused plans to change. AEW cancelled this weekend’s live Collision taping in Texas and instead taped an episode on Wednesday night while in Florida for Dynamite.

While logistical issues meant that this week’s Collision is without an anticipated title bout between Mark Briscoe and El Clon, it still has a few intriguing matches. Most notably, in a rematch from 2024, newly-crowned TBS Champion Willow Nightingale will put her title up against Triangle of Madness member Julia Hart. CMLL will be represented in the lineup as well when Claudio Castagnoli defends his heavyweight title against Roderick Strong.

Not interested in watching WWE this weekend? Here’s an alternative option for the evening.

  • Jake Doyle and Mark Davis vs. Alec Price & Jordan Oliver
  • Hangman Page vs. Katsuyori Shibata
  • Kris Statlander vs. Isla Dawn
  • Andrade El Idolo vs. Magnus
  • Austin Gunn & Billy Gunn vs. Konosuke Takeshita & Kyle Fletcher
  • Claudio Castagnoli vs. Roderick Strong (CMLL World Heavyweight Championship)
  • Willow Nightingale vs. Julia Hart (TBS Championship)

Sunday

NOAH LETHAL ODYSSEY TOUR / 3 a.m. ET / Wrestle Universe

Pro Wrestling NOAH will head to Osaka this weekend for a LETHAL ODYSSEY TOUR event. This Sunday’s lineup will see heel-turned Alpha Wolf in the main event, defending his GHC National Championship for the first time when he faces Daga. Alpha Wolf notably betrayed his brother, Dragon Bane, and joined Team 2000X when he captured the title on January 1.

In a preview of an upcoming GHC world title bout, Yoshiki Inamura will be opposite Takashi Sugiura in co-main event tag action. This isn’t a can’t-miss NOAH show by any means, but it’s a notable event on a slower weekend.

  • Manabu Soya, Tetsuya Endo, AMAKUSA, Black Mensore & Hiroto Tsuruya vs. Eita, Daiki Odashima, Katsumi Inahata, Hayato Koyanagi & Aoi Takahashi
  • Kaito Kiyomiya, Galeno & Harutoki vs. Muhammad Yone, Quiet Storm & Hajime Ohara
  • Kenoh, Atsushi Kotoge & Hi69 vs. Masa Kitamiya, Tadasuke & Jun Masaoka
  • Naomichi Marufuji vs. Alejandro
  • BUSHI vs. HAYATA
  • Yoshiki Inamura, Jack Morris & Dragon Bane vs. OZAWA, Takashi Sugiura & Kai Fujimura
  • Alpha Wolf vs. Daga (GHC National Championship)

PROGRESS Chapter 189: The Darkest Night / 10 a.m. ET / TrillerTV+

U.K. wrestling promotion PROGRESS will close out the weekend with a show on Sunday from the Electric Ballroom in London, England. This evening’s show has tons of names worth watching for: 29-year-old Man Like DeReiss will defend against Cara Noir in the main event, rising women’s talent Rayne Leverkusen will put her belt up against Alexxis Falcon, and in his first appearance since capturing a PROGRESS title as part of a NOAH card earlier this month, Saxon Huxley will be in action. A solid overseas lineup available to TrillerTV subscribers.

  • Big Damo vs. Spike Trivet
  • LA Taylor vs. Safire Reed (Super Strong Style Women’s Tournament First Round)
  • Skye Smitson vs. Anita Vaughan (Super Strong Style Women’s Tournament First Round)
  • Kid Lykos II vs. Jay Joshua (Super Strong Style Women’s Tournament First Round)
  • Connor Mills & Nico Angelo vs. Gene Munny & Kouga (PROGRESS Tag Team Championships)
  • Saxon Huxley vs. Axel Tischer (PROGRESS Atlas Championship)
  • Rayne Leverkusen vs. Alexxis Falcon (PROGRESS Women’s Championship)
  • Man Like DeReiss vs. Cara Noir (PROGRESS World Championship)
