Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson scored his latest victory on a card in Mexico on Thursday night.

The 25-year-old improved to 3-0 in his MMA campaign, stopping Hugo Lezama in the opening round of their heavyweight fight at México Fight League 3.

Lezama (11-3) landed a spinning wheel kick, which Steveson absorbed and reacted well to, taking the opponent to the mat and overwhelming him with strikes. The finishing sequence began when Steveson mounted Lezama and began to land a multitude of strikes before the official stopped the fight at 3:50 of the opening frame.

Stevenson’s three wins in MMA have all ended in the first round as the heavyweight prospect continues to drum up interest for a UFC contract in the promotion’s flailing heavyweight division.

After retiring from amateur wrestling, Steveson pursued a professional wrestling career and a football career, trying out for the Buffalo Bills.

Steveson is training under Greg Jackson at JacksonWink in New Mexico.
