Jacy Jayne escapes Triple Threat with NXT title still around her waist
WWE’s NXT TV brand hit the road for the first time in 2026 on Tuesday night, visiting the 713 Music Hall in Houston, Texas, for a live episode. This show was billed as “Booker T Appreciation Night” – we were shown him pulling up in a matte black Tesla Cybertruck beforehand and dapping up his students.
This evening’s episode opened with the biggest bout in the lineup, a triple-threat title match for the NXT Women’s Championship featuring defending champ Jacy Jayne, as well as rivals Zaria and Sol Ruca.
Jayne went for the pin early on after scoring a Codebreaker to Zaria, but had the attempt stopped by a top-rope frogsplash by Ruca. Moments later, Ruca tried for a Sasuke Special to the outside but had a little trouble getting over the ropes – still stuck the landing though. Jayne had control of the match heading into a break after taking out both Zaria and Ruca at ringside.
Ruca had the momentum as the show returned, coming off the top rope with a crossbody onto both of her opponents. This match worked at a fast pace late, with the women taking turns having control of the match.
Zaria took out Jayne with a spear, but was hit with a spear by Ruca moments later. Ruca climbed to the top for an attempted Super-Sol Snatcher, but was stopped by Zaria. A battle in a corner of the ring ended with Zaria giving a German Superplex to both women for a pair of near falls.
Jayne got on a roll, scoring cannonballs in the corner to both women. Zaria got up and caught Jayne with an F5, but a pin attempt was stopped by Ruca. An F5 from Zaria was countered mid-air into an X-Factor from Ruca.
Ruca knocked Zaria out of the ring then gave Jayne a Sol Snatcher, but had her pin attempt stopped after Zaria dragged her out of the ring. Zaria gave Ruca an F5 at ringside then dragged her back into the ring.
Zaria was about to join her opponents in the ring but was stopped by the rest of Fatal Influence, who brawled with her at ringside. This distraction allowed a hurt but aware Jayne to pin a stunned Ruca in the ring to retain in 10 minutes. Despite Zaria being the one who did the fight-ending damage to Ruca, a distraction cost her a title.
This was a really fun opener. It seems clear that the payoff for Zaria/Ruca will be a match at Stand & Deliver. I’m hoping they can build up an interesting opponent for Jayne in the next few weeks, as she has cleaned out the division as of late.
Page, Saints & D’Angelo all want a piece of the champ
Former NXT Champion Ricky Saints hit the ring for the next segment. He addressed last week, where Saints teamed with Ethan Page for a tag win against current champ Joe Hendry and Myles Borne (Page was the one who got the pin on Hendry).
Saints said that Page is chasing after a second North American title, and he’s going after the NXT Championship. Page came out to cut off his friend to say that while he likes working as a tag team with Saints, he had some bad news for him: He actually wanted to go after the world title, not the North American belt.
A discussion between Saints and Page was starting to turn into an argument. It was at this point that the champ himself, Hendry, came out. The champ stirred the pot, suggesting that Page has solid grounds for a title shot, and that maybe Saints doesn’t have what it takes to earn another opportunity.
Hendry and Page’s argument was heating up, and they tried to take out their frustrations by both attacking Hendry. However, the champ wasn’t going to let that happen, sending them both retreating with fallaway slams. Just as he was posing for the cameras, a fourth man entered the picture and cleared house: Tony D’Angelo.
D’Angelo wiped out all three men then stared the camera down. It’s fun that we still don’t know how the title picture will turn out. It will be lame if this just ends up being a four-way or three-way, although I’m starting to sense that’s what they’ll do.
The Americanos take down Vanity Project in six-man action
We had a special main roster vs. NXT matchup next, as Bravo, Rayo and El Grande Americano faced off against The Vanity Project’s Jackson Drake, Brad Baylor, and Ricky Smokes. Commentary made note that Drake will defend his EVOLVE title on tomorrow’s show. This closed out a busy stretch of days for El Grande Americano, who worked AAA on Saturday, Raw on Monday, and now NXT tonight.
El Grande Americano got a hot tag shortly after the show came back from a break, taking on both Baylor and Smokes in the ring. He came out of the corner with a Blockbuster onto both men, but had a follow-up pin attempt stopped by Drake.
Drake came running off the ropes but was caught by Bravo for an Airplane Spin. Rayo and Bravo took out Drake and Smokes at ringside with dual dives. Back in the ring, Baylor kicked out of an Air Raid Crash from El Grande Americano. Drake got back into the match, taking out Bravo and Rayo with a dive to the outside. He returned to the ring and gave El Grande Americano a Burning Hammer, but wasn’t able to end the match with just that. Drake came out of the corner with a 450 Splash for another close pin.
El Grande Americano came running off the ropes for a beautiful head kick. A second Air Raid Crash was reversed into a roll-up pin attempt, although the referee stopped his count after Rayo pointed out that Baylor was holding Drake’s legs to the ropes at ringside.
With the referee distracted, Bravo handed El Grande Americano a metal plate to load his mask. Bravo and Rayo took out Smokes with a Side-Russian Legsweep, then El Grande Americano hit a running headbutt for the pinfall win in 12 minutes. This match had nothing going on storyline-wise, but was a fun piece of work.
Backstage, Sean Legacy said that he can’t compete in the tag team #1 contendership tournament due to a leg injury. Eli Knight will now be teaming with Elio LeFleur instead in tournament action sometime in the coming weeks.
Sol Ruca was seen demanding to have a face-to-face with Zaria on next week’s show.
Booker T Appreciation Night gets crashed
Announcer Vic Joseph was in the ring for the next segment, a celebration of Booker T as part of his Appreciation Night. He invited “Houston’s favorite son” into the ring then played a video package on his career, including comments from Shawn Michaels, Jasper Troy, Joe Hendry, Steve Austin (I presume this was footage from a past interview repurposed here), Jacy Jayne, Trick Williams, The Miz, Stephanie Vaquer, and Roxanne Perez.
This was a long video package, but a nice compilation on him. Booker, who was moved to tears, was given a plaque by Joseph commemorating tonight. Some comments from Booker were cut off by Keanu Carver, who told people to shut up and said Booker T shouldn’t get a celebration.
After wiping out some of Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling trainees, it was just Carver and Booker in the ring. In for the save was the aforementioned Troy, who sent Carver out of the ring to defend his WWE LFG trainer.
Carver has been looking good in recent weeks, and I’ve been enjoying this build. Some of the NXT roster appeared on-stage to applaud Booker, but Booker was still angry, getting on the mic and telling NXT General Manager Robert Stone that he needs to do something about Carver. Kind of an awkward finish to the segment, as they were trying to end it on a happy note but Booker was still focused on the angle that was getting shot.
This was a fun little way to build a current rivalry while also giving Booker T some shine in front of his home crowd.
WWE Speed crowns a new champion
The WWE Speed Women’s Championship was on the line next, with Wren Sinclair going head-to-head with Fallon Henley. A win here would’ve started Sinclair’s first-ever WWE title run.
Commentary made note that Henley was coming in with an injured shoulder due to the brawl she had against Zaria earlier in the night. Sinclair was trying for her Cattle Mutilation submission in the first minute, but Henley was able to escape it.
Henley tried to lift Hail late in the match had her shoulder give out. After a pair of roll-up attempts, Sinclair locked in a Cattle Mutilation for the submission victory in three-and-a-half minutes. Sinclair is the new WWE Speed Women’s Champion.
Backstage, Ethan Page suggested that Ricky Saints should face Tony D’Angelo next week. Saints didn’t like the idea of that match, but GM Robert Stone thought it was great and made it official.
Birthright advances to tag title #1 contenders bout
A semi-final matchup in NXT’s Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders tournament was next, with Hank & Tank meeting Stacks and Uriah Connors of Birthright. I kind of assumed that Charlie Dempsey would be in this match, since he’s the guy who most recently joined the group, but I guess not.
Tank Ledger got a hot tag just a couple of minutes into this one. He wiped out Connors with a knee strike on the ring apron, then dove to the outside with a cannonball to Dempsey and Lexis King. He tagged Hank Walker back into the match to hit a double-team Superplex into a Swanton Bomb. A pin attempt was stopped by Connors, who broke it up with his own Swanton Bomb.
Stacks got taken out by a Black Hole Slam. King hit the ring to distract Hank & Tank and give Stacks a breather. This allowed Connors to quietly tag into the match, a move which Hank & Tank didn’t see. The babyface due kept going after Stacks, but that meant nothing since he wasn’t the legal man anymore. Connors was able to sneak into the ring after a move on Stacks for a quick roll-up win in just under four minutes.
This was a very short one (it worked at such a frantic pace that I wondered if it was cut down due to the show running behind schedule) but had its purpose.
Backstage, we saw OTM getting jumped by DarkState.
A match was set up for next week between Thea Hail and Kelani Jordan after a negative interaction backstage, although it hasn’t been confirmed yet.
The broadcast revealed that Sexyy Red will be at Stand & Deliver next month.
Here’s what they announced for next week’s show:
- Tony D’Angelo vs. Ricky Saints
- NXT North American Championship #1 Contender’s Gauntlet Eliminator
Tatum Paxley closes out rivalry with Izzi Dame in steel cage win, Blake Monroe gets last laugh
The main event of the night saw Tatum Paxley try to finish up her rivalry against Izzi Dame, defending her NXT Women’s North American Championship in a steel cage match.
Dame tried to get the jump on Dame, attacking her before she even entered the cage for this match. She scored a nasty suplex onto the floor, then bashed the cage door in Paxley’s head. The fight went into the ring, and the match officially got started. Dame brought a steel chair into the ring but quickly had it taken out of her hands.
Both women climbed the cage and took turns bashing eachother’s heads into the structure. Dame dodged a running crossbody from Paxley during commercials, causing Dame to go flying into a cage wall.
Paxley and Dame sat at the top of the cage and exchanged strikes after the show returned. Dame climbed back down to the top rope and connected with a Superplex for a near fall. Paxley picked up a two-count of her own a minute later after coming off the top with a Whisper in the Wind.
Paxley and Dame went back and forth with kicks as they worked up to their feet. Dame scored a Codebreaker that Paxley no-sold but got a near fall after following up with a powerbomb. Dame grabbed the steel chair she brought into the ring earlier and unloaded with a series of shots to Paxley’s back.
Dame picked up Paxley and drove her into the steel cage twice. She picked up Paxley for a powerbomb, but the champ reversed the move into a Code Red onto the chair. Paxley tossed the chair into Dame’s hands then scored a Rolling Thunder kick, and put away Dame with her Cemetery Drive finisher in 11 minutes.
This wasn’t the best out of all their showdowns, but it was certainly another fun one between these two. This feud with Dame has done wonders for Paxley, she’s easily one of NXT’s best women’s wrestlers at the moment.
Before the show went off-air, we had a surprise. Appearing from under the venue’s stage was Blake Monroe, who attacked Paxley from behind and then hoisted the North American title. Looks like we know Paxley’s Stand & Deliver opponent.
Final thoughts
This was a very enjoyable episode of NXT. All of the matches were good at the very least. While I enjoyed the main event, I found the three-way for the women’s title in the opening spot as the best bout of the evening. NXT is doing a solid job of building to Stand & Deliver while leaving many questions unanswered about the card, making the show even more fun to watch. I’m looking forward to next week.
