WWE plans on running WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia in 2027, and a local Irish councilor believes that opens the event to other international locations.
Kilkenny councilor Maurice Shortall plans to present a proposal to the government to host WrestleMania in Ireland.
“As a globally recognised event with the capacity to attract tens of thousands of international visitors and generate substantial international media exposure, WrestleMania presents a significant opportunity for Ireland to strengthen its position as a leading destination for major event tourism,” Shortall told Oisín Doherty of the Irish Mirror.
Ireland has hosted major events, such as UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Brandao in 2014. The NFL and college football games have been played in Ireland, and Katie Taylor plans to retire in her home country, which is expected to be one of the top boxing cards of the year. The last WWE event in the country was in 2025 for SmackDown.
Shortall believes WrestleMania would help benefit Ireland.
“The wider regional benefit to counties such as Kilkenny would be substantial, with strong potential for tourism spillover, increased domestic travel, and enhanced international visibility for Ireland’s secondary tourism destinations,” Shortall said.
“Ireland is well placed to present a credible and competitive bid for WrestleMania, given our strong international tourism brand, proven track record in hosting major events, and global reputation as a welcoming destination.”
