Sayaka Kurara’s reign as World of STARDOM Champion has survived its first test.
Kurara took down former TJPW International Princess Champion Maki Itoh on Saturday night, overcoming her in the main event of STARDOM’s Queens Dynasty card.
The physical contest saw Kurara score a near fall with her Violet Screwdriver (Michinoku Driver), before putting away the defiant Itoh with a nasty spear. The match was physical throughout, with Itoh going to the floor for a bodyslam early on, and Kurara connecting with a Shining Wizard on the ring apron at one point.
The crowd seemed heavily in support of Itoh, with incredibly loud chants for her name as the match was getting started.
The match was Kurara’s first time defending the World of STARDOM Championship. The 25-year-old ended the historic 483-day reign of Saya Kamitani just under a month ago, kicking off her first-ever singles title run since debuting just two years ago.
The headliner was notably also Itoh’s first time challenging for a STARDOM title since she joined the promotion earlier this year. She was offered to shake the hand of Kurara following the loss, but the stubborn challenger instead dropped the champ with a stunner.
Shortly following her win, Kurara had a face-to-face with Suzu Suzuki, her next opponent.
Suzuki earned the upcoming title opportunity by winning a four-way earlier in the night, beating Starlight Kid, Maika and Natsuko Toura for the #1 contenders spot. The electric contenders match ended with Suzuki giving Maika a trio of German Suplexes, bridging the third into a successful pin attempt.
The upcoming match will be Suzuki’s fifth time challenging for the World of STARDOM title since 2023. She has fallen short against past champs, including Giulia, Tam Nakano, Saya Kamitani, and, coincidentally, the woman she pinned to earn her next opportunity, Maika.
Other headlines from the night included Hanan turning back Bea Priestley in a Wonder of STARDOM Championship match, Ranna Yagami keeping hold of the Future of STARDOM title, and the trio of Ami Sohrei, Hina, and Lady C winning a #1 contenders bout for the promotion’s trios titles.
