United Empire vs. Don Callis Family

AEW Dynamite from Baltimore kicked off with Will Ospreay teaming with his United Empire stablemates, Henare and Francesco Akira, to take on Don Callis Family’s Brian Cage, Lance Archer & Rocky Romero. The story here was that Ospreay called in “reinforcements” from New Japan to help him take care of the DCF. Archer and Henare traded offense early, with both strong men laying it on. UE worked as a cohesive unit, highlighting their history together.

The heels got the heat on Akira as the show went to commercial. Upon return, Akira built to the hot tag to Henare. Archer and Henare went at it again, and things built to another hot tag to Ospreay. Akira hit a flurry of strikes to the chest of Lance Archer, bringing the crowd to its feet, but Archer took him down with one swing. Akira and Henare took Archer and Cage out with dives to the outside, and Romero did his slide celebration, only to be hit immediately with the Hidden Blade by Ospreay for the win.

Renee Paquette interviewed Okada backstage, saying Takeshita was selfish and Kyle Fletcher is too smart to make the same mistake. Okada said he’d be happy if Kyle retains, but he expects Kyle to be happy for him if he wins, and he wants Kyle to raise his hand when he wins.

With that, Tony Schiavone interviewed Kyle Fletcher in the ring and asked him to respond. Fletcher said his reign will not end at Wembley, but he was willing to go along with Okada’s plan. Fletcher said that Okada should have his back in the match. Kyle turned his attention to Takeshita, congratulating him on “losing” the G1 Climax tournament. Takeshita came down to the ring, and the two started brawling. Takeshita came out on top, hitting Fletcher with a Power Drive knee and a Raging Fire, leaving him lying as he posed with the International Championship. The announcers pointed out that Okada did not come out to help Fletcher.

Omega & Ospreay Sit-Down

Footage from a sit-down between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay earlier in the day, with Renee beginning by asking about their first meeting in PWG in 2015. Ospreay said he was a big Omega fan, and while he didn’t blow Omega away, he saw potential. From there, they went on to talk about WrestleKingdom 17, and Kenny said Ospreay needed him to sell out the Tokyo Dome. Ospreay responded by talking about how different their COVID experiences were, with Ospreay noting that fans came back for AEW shows well before they did for New Japan.

Omega was asked about joining the Don Callis Family, and Omega defended it by saying he quickly gained AEW, IWGP, TNA, and AAA Championship gold. They then discussed Will’s Forbidden Door victory, which was tainted by Will using Callis to win. Ospreay admitted it kept him up at night, and he still thinks about it three years later. They then compared injuries, with Omega’s Diverticulitis and Ospreay’s neck surgery.

Omega claimed that Ospreay wanted to face him because he knew he could never beat MJF. Ospreay responded by saying that no Englishman had ever won a world title on home soil, and he wanted Omega at his best so he could prove himself. Ospreay promised to do it with pride and honor, and Omega brought up Ospreay’s mother, which made him get up in Omega’s face. Omega finished by saying that Ospreay’s “boy of his” might want a new hero after Ospreay fails at All In. This was excellent.

TBS Championship 4-Way

Next, Maya World defended her TBS title against Hikaru Shida, Persephone, and Kris Statlander. This quickly broke off into Persephone and Statlander brawling on the outside of the ring, with Shida and Maya fighting on the inside. After a commercial break, the two pairs changed places, with Statlander and Persephone going at it in the ring. Statlander took it to all three of her competitors, but Shida took control with a Falcon Arrow. Statlander kipped up out of the move, only to immediately be speared by Persephone. Maya attempted a roll-up on Persephone, only to be taken out by a Shida knee strike right out of the kickout. Statlander took Shida out of Persephone’s hands when attempting a Razor’s Edge, hitting her with a Powerbomb instead. Statlander went for the Wednesday Night Fever on Maya, but Maya reversed it and picked up the pinfall victory.

The Brawling Birds cut a backstage promo, claiming that Divine Dominion were scared of them and that they would take the tag titles at Wembley in front of thousands of drunken Brits.

Continental Challenge Cup Quarterfinal

The next match was the first C3 quarterfinal, with Switchblade Jay White taking on Continental Champion Jon Moxley. The announcers discussed Jay working with a potential neck injury after the match against David Finlay some weeks ago. Mox dominated Jay White as the show returned from an ad break, but White continued to fight from underneath. White went for the Blade Runner, and Moxley nearly reversed it into the Death Rider, but neither could follow through. White caught Moxley in a submission move, but Mox was able to roll and get to the ropes as the show went back to commercial. Upon return, Mox hit a dive onto White on the outside and seemed to have an issue with his shoulder after doing so.

Jay hit three consecutive Cut Throat Suplexes on Moxley, but Mox popped right up only to be hit with a Flatliner. Mox applied the Bulldog Choke, but White hit a fourth Cut Throat Suplex and a Uranage for a near fall. White hit the Blade Runner, but Moxley rolled out of the ring to avoid the pin. Moxley recovered and got the Bulldog choke on, and followed that up with the Death Rider, but White kicked out. Mox returned to the Bulldog Choke, and White went out. Moxley goes on to the Semifinals in Glasgow.

After the match, The Dogs jumped White, but Kyle O’Reilly and Orange Cassidy ran down to help. Gabe Kidd appeared, taking out O’Reilly and Cassidy. Roderick Strong ran down, but The Dogs continued to dominate. This brought out Brodido & Adam Page, and finally The Dogs retreated. Hangman got on the mic and made fun of Finlay’s boots, but before he could go further, The Demand & Lethal Twist appeared on the stage. Hangman said that if there’s anyone who wants a shot at the Trios titles, they should “meet them under the Wembley Arch at dusk.”

Maya World was interviewed backstage and said she wasn’t done yet. Willow Nightingale interrupted and reminded her that she had promised her a title shot, and they agreed to a match this Saturday on Collision.

Jonathan Cruz appeared for the first time in months as MJF’s personal Spanish translator and said that Andrade will never be the real world Champion and is not a real Latino man. This brought out Andrade, who stormed the ring as a referee appeared, and Andrade won in 13 seconds. Andrade started cutting a promo calling out MJF, but instead, MJF appeared via video from his hot tub on Long Island. MJF called Andrade “Andrew” and said he’d see him at Wembley. Andrade hit Cruz with another DM and left.

Renee Paquette interviewed Mercedes Moné and Willow Nightingale from two different places backstage, which felt like a way to differentiate it from the earlier Ospreay/Omega sit-down. Willow and Mercedes went back and forth, and eventually they both left their interview spots and found each other. They brawled into the arena as officials tried to separate them. The two had to be pulled apart multiple times until eventually security carried Mercedes away, screaming, “fuck you, Willow.”

Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana cut a backstage promo, wondering if Hangman said “anyone” can challenge for the Trios titles, saying, “Don’t say it if you don’t mean it.”

Continental Challenge Cup Quarterfinal

The next match was the second of two Continental Challenge Cup Quarterfinals, this time seeing Nigel McGuinness taking on Hechicero. It was noted that McGuinness’ ankle was not 100% after his last round match with Katsuyori Shibata last week. Nigel started the match by going after Hechicero’s mask, but Hechicero responded by going after Nigel’s injured ankle.

After a commercial break, Nigel attempted a Tower of London but was caught with a submission by Hechicero. Nigel applied the London Dungeon, but Hechicero again focused on Nigel’s ankle to stop him. McGuinness caught Hechicero with a knee strike to the face and applied the Body Scissors, causing Hechicero to pass out. Nigel goes on to the Semifinals in Glasgow.

A promo package aired hyping up the Falls Count Anywhere match between Darby Allin and Kevin Knight for the TNT title at All In. This led to yet another Tony Schiavone in-ring interview, this time with Knight. Knight quickly dispatched Schiavone and called out Darby. Darby appeared, and Knight demanded that he prove he had no weapons on him, and then suddenly pyro went off all around Darby.

Knight attacked Darby and hit the Coast-to-Coast with Darby’s head trapped in a chair. The medical team stretchered Darby out as Steve Borden (Sting’s son) looked on.

After a commercial, Knight approached Darby and Borden and told Borden to stay in his lane.

The Elite vs. Don Callis Family

The main event of the evening saw Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks taking on Don Callis Family’s Jake Doyle, Mark Davis, and El Clon. As Kenny Omega was making his entrance, Ospreay got into his face, clearly still upset about Omega invoking his Mother and Son in the earlier promo.

Meanwhile, the smoke from the Darby incident, combined with Omega’s pyro, lingered, giving the rest of the show a very hazy look. After a commercial break, Matt Jackson made the hot tag to Kenny Omega, who took it to El Clon.
