The show began with a video including past TripleMania highlights mixed with the current stars and voiced in Spanish by Rey Mysterio, with subtitles stating AAA isn’t here to gamble on its future, “but raise the stakes.”
Lady Shani suffers potential injury in opener
The opening match was marred by some type of injury to Lady Shani, which removed her from the match immediately. It was not apparent what happened as she was exchanging covers with Adelicious, and then Adelicious did a cartwheel and grazed past Shani, who reached for her eye or face and just went down. It was hard to see if there was any contact, but it was not obvious what happened to her. Shani rolled out of the ring and never returned. Therefore, Adelicious could not tag in.
Mascarita Sagrada did his routine, working with Jack Cartwheel with the size discrepancy and then having Abismo Negro base for him flying head scissors and ‘ranas. Cartwheel went for a twisting press off the top, missed his target, and landed on his partner. Adelicious executed a high cross to the floor on Cartwheel and Abismo for her lone spot.
Mini Vikingo hit a tope con giro and then pinned Mini Abismo Negro Jr. with a shooting star press.
The match was thrown off due to the Lady Shani incident, and it seemed like the remaining members had to piece together a tag match.
Zuffa Boxing’s Cain Sandoval and comedian Gabriel Iglesias were shown in the crowd.
Los Americanos survive elimination match
This was an elimination match with three falls across the allotted time. It really picked up for the final fall involving Fraxiom and Los Americanos.
Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro were teasing a breakup as Wilde was distracted using his hairspray, and a miscommunication spot led to their removal from the match. Del Toro landed a coast-to-coast dropkick on Frazer, but Axiom saved. Wilde attempted to use the hairspray but sprayed into Del Toro’s eyes by mistake, which led to Axiom and Frazer hitting their finisher with Axiom off the top with a missile dropkick. Del Toro walked to the back with Wilde following an argument.
The Tokyo Bad Boys took over in the second fall and saw Takuma (formerly Nobu San) do a step-up to the top rope and a moonsault to the floor. Bravo lifted Takuma for an airplane spin and simultaneously delivered the Giant Swing to Kento, and that was super impressive from a strength and coordination perspective. Fraxiom hit the same missile dropkick into side Russian leg sweep combo, and Axiom pinned Takuma.
The last fall had about seven minutes and elevated this match to the next level. Los Americanos and Fraxiom are the most under-utilized teams in the world. Axiom hit a moonsault into a DDT, which Graves was quick to attach to Rey Mysterio and Eddy Guerrero’s famous match at Halloween Havoc in the same building twenty-nine years ago. Fraxiom went for their finisher again, but this time, Axiom missed and nailed Frazer, which was a great spot as you’d seen them eliminate the last two teams with it. Bravo & Rayo hit a top rope ‘rana and splash combo for a big near-fall. Los Americanos took control of Frazer with Rayo snapping his fingers and Bravo landing a diving headbutt into a side Russian leg sweep for the win.
The two teams shook hands after the match, and the last portion of this was excellent.
Corey Graves announced that Marisela Pena will be inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame on October 24 at Heroes Inmortales in Mexico City.
Roxanne Perez earns Reina de Reinas title shot at Worlds Collide
This was a fatal four-way with the first to score the fall winning the match. It really suffered from a lack of reaction until the finish. There are business reasons for doing this show in Las Vegas, and they did take precedence, but it sacrificed the great atmosphere these AAA shows have weekly.
Graves mentioned this was Faby Apache’s 21st appearance at TripleMania. Flammer came down to join the Spanish broadcast.
Nattie and Apache applied dual surfboards to Perez and La Hiedra before releasing them and going at it. The two applied an armbar and sharpshooter simultaneously on La Hiedra until Perez pulled at Nattie’s face to break the submission. Perez broke out of Apache’s inverted figure-four to apply a Crossface and transitioned to a European Clutch.
Apache broke up a sharpshooter applied by Nattie on Perez and sent Nattie out of the ring. Apache took Nattie out with a senton off the apron. La Hiedra sent Apache into the barricade, and it left her alone with Perez.
Flammer entered the ring and went to strike Perez with the Reina de Reinas title. Perez ducked, and it nearly struck La Hiedra. Perez shoved La Hiedra into Flammer and hit Pop Rox to earn the title shot at Worlds Collide on September 26.
Flammer was upset with La Hiedra for losing, and they argued after the match.
There were some hesitation spots, and the crowd took this one down. It is very clear Perez is going to be a big star when they are ready to pull the trigger with her on the main roster. She looked very good in this match and will face either Flammer or La Catalina in Chicago.
El Grande Americano met with Rey Mysterio backstage and said he wanted Omos out of AAA and to be the new Mega Champion after this weekend. Rey said he’s faced giants before and something Omos doesn’t have is heart. He also mentioned being at the first TripleMania in 1992 and now headlining this version thirty-four years later. El Grande promised to always be by his side.
La Parka retains Latin American Championship
This match received a better reaction due to the characters involved, mainly Mr. Iguana but also La Parka. The story is that Iguana was pressuring Rey Mysterio for a title match, and he added him to this match, but he has to face his best friend, La Parka.
La Parka nearly lost his best friend attempting a twisting arm drag off the apron to send Iguana onto Laredo Kid on the floor. Laredo Kid worked hard in this one and saw the performer hit a somersault dive off the post to both on the floor. La Parka barely got Laredo Kid over his head for a belly-to-belly into the corner, as the champion had some rough moments.
La Parka ascended to the top and sent both off the top with a Spanish Fly, and the crowd reacted well. La Parka and Laredo Kid exchanged a Poisonrana and Crucifix Driver. Mr. Iguana hit Get Green on Laredo Kid and had the match, but La Parka yanked him out of the ring as Mr. Iguana got upset and shoved his friend.
It was followed by a Doomsday Device delivered to Mr. Iguana, and La Parka hit the Bone Breaker on Laredo Kid to retain the title.
It didn’t have the smoothness of the four-way tag match, but they were able to lift this crowd and had some ambitious ideas to varying degrees of success.
