The UFC held their first event from Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday night from the Bon Secours Wellness Center with a reported attendance of 7,682 and gate of $567,930.80.
In the main event, ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung had one of the quickest performances of his career, stopping Brazilian Renato Moicano within the first minute of their five-round featherweight main event.
Jung came out and immediately displayed his willingness to strike, connecting with a huge right hand that nearly sent Moicano into North Carolina, following repeated shots as Moicano went to the ground. Jung transitioned to his back and would finish with strikes at the 58-second mark.
This was the opposite of Jung’s last fight in November of last year against Yair Rodriguez. The fight literally came down to the final second of their five-round fight with Rodriguez down on the scorecards, landing an elbow that knocked out Jung for one of the most spectacular knockouts in MMA history.
Jung improved to 15-5 with the victory while Moicano lost his second consecutive fight following a TKO loss to Jose Aldo in February and falls to 13-3-1.
Jung also received a Performance of the Night bonus, along with Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
Rozenstruik had one of the fastest stoppages in UFC history, with a nine-second knockout of Allen Crowder on the preliminary card. Rozenstruik opened with a left jab to drop Crowder and three big shows from above ended the fight, which was the second-fastest in UFC heavyweight history.
Rising prospect Deron Winn of AKA made his UFC debut with a unanimous decision over Eric Spicely. The Rhode Island native was Winn’s third opponent on this card after Markus Perez and Bruno Silva were unable to fight. Winn was signed by the promotion following a victory over Tom Lawlor at Golden Boy MMA’s lone card last November in Los Angeles. The two also were awarded the Fight of the Night bonus for an extra $50,000 each.
The card lost its co-feature prior to the event when John Lineker pulled out of his fight with Rob Font. Lineker’s manager spoke to ESPN and stated that Lineker suffered a cut Thursday evening and opted not to fight on the show.
