The premiere of Friday Night SmackDown culminated with Brock Lesnar defeating Kofi Kingston to win the WWE championship and confronted by Cain Velasquez.

Lesnar’s first match on WWE television since 2004 lasted nine-seconds as Kingston leaped onto his shoulders and was hit with the F-5 and pinned.

Kingston was an immediate afterthought as Rey Mysterio’s music played as he came out alongside former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, who had been rumored to appear.

Velasquez attacked Lesnar and took him down with a double leg as Lesnar retreated from the ring, teasing a future match between the two.

Their history dates to October 2010 when Velasquez defeated Lesnar at UFC 121 to become the UFC heavyweight champion.

Lesnar is advertised and scheduled to wrestle at the WWE’s Crown Jewel event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and while it is not confirmed, this angle would suggest Velasquez being involved in Lesnar’s next match on October 31st.

Velasquez made his professional wrestling debut this past August at AAA’s TripleMania XXVII in Mexico City teaming with Cody Rhodes and Psycho Clown to defeat Texano Jr., Black Taurus, and Killer Kross. He wrestled again last month for AAA at The Hulu Theatre teaming with Brian Cage and Psycho Clown defeating Black Taurus, Texano Jr., & Rey Escorpion.

It is unknown how this affects his MMA career as he is under contract to the UFC and last fought in February where he was stopped by Francis Ngannou in 26 seconds.

Additionally, ESPN’s Marc Raimondi spoke to Velasquez about the transition to WWE and stated the two sides are in “advanced talks” but Velasquez stated no deal had officially been signed. Velasquez also told Raimondi, “This is definitely my focus (pro wrestling). My family is into it, they love it. They’re super excited. I haven’t seen them excited over something like this in a while. It’s cool”.
