WRESTLING NEWS

**AEW has announced that it will open its doors for limited, ticketed crowds of 10-15% capacity for its Daily’s Place shows in Jacksonville, Florida beginning with next Thursday’s live edition of Dynamite on August 27th.

The seats will be sold in “pods” of two, three, four and six and are said to be in compliance with state/local regulations and CDC guidelines. Face coverings and physical distancing between guests outside of each group will be required, as well as temperature checks prior to entry. Seats will only be sold in the 200 section and above.

Tickets for Thursday’s event will be limited to 10% capacity and available for sale starting tomorrow at 10am ET on AEWTIX.com and Ticketmaster.

**On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed USA Network preempting the September 2nd edition of WWE NXT for NHL Playoff Hockey. USA’s programming schedule confirms the preemption with that week’s NXT instead airing a day earlier on Tuesday, September 1st at 8pm ET.

The timing would seemingly benefit AEW, as their first opportunity to host Dynamite unopposed on a Wednesday will also be their “go-home” show ahead of All Out on September 5th.

Meltzer also stated that this episode was originally to be followed by a one-hour countdown special, however it appears that special will now be condensed to 30min and will air prior to The Buy-In on Saturday, September 5th and 5:30pm ET.

**AEW is promoting Orange Cassidy’s first ever in-ring interview for Saturday’s edition of Dynamite.

**Marcus “Buff” Bagwell was involved in a traffic collision on Sunday that resulted in him being transported to a hospital with “serious injuries”. According to the Cobb County Police Department, the 50-year-old Bagwell lost control of his vehicle while handling a curve, colliding with a centre median, metal fence, and a curb before hitting a free-standing bathroom at a bus station. Investigators believe Bagwell was impaired by prescription medication during the collision.

**Deadspin’s Julie DiCaro has published an article compiling the various public accusations made against Patrick Clark (a.k.a. Velveteen Dream), along with public responses from Clark and Paul Levesque over recent weeks.

The hashtag #FireVelveteenDream was trending during the airing of last night’s WWE NXT, which featured Velveteen Dream vs. Finn Balor in the main event.

**LIDET Entertainment, former owner of Pro-Wrestling NOAH, announced the creation of its new pro wrestling company, GLEAT. Regarding the name:

GLEAT is a coined word in which GREAT is combined with L, the acronym for LIDET ENTERTAINMENT.

The company will be headed by Executive Director Kiyoshi Tamura, a former professional wrestler and MMA fighter known for his stints in UWF, UWFi, RINGS and PrideFC. Tamura makes mention of shoot-style organization UWF several times in GLEAT’s announcement video, stating:

My ideal is this. Martial arts pro wrestling, The UWF. That’s what I want to make. I want to leave UWF for future generations. I want to keep it as history.

Joining him will be NOSAWA Rongai as Chief Strategy Officer, Kaz Hayashi as Chief Technical Officer and Riki Choshu as “Observer”. You can watch the announcement video below (turn on captions for English subtitles; though at present they do not span the entire video):

**Digital streaming platform FITE announced the appointment of Nick Aldis as Special Correspondent. Aldis’ initial efforts will involve him creating exclusive content for the site including video conversations with various athletes. Aldis would later add that his coverage will include boxing, MMA, pro wrestling and more.

**NJPW Young Lion Gabriel Kidd has suffered a neck injury and will miss the August 26th and 27th cards at Korakuen Hall. The announcement and updated cards are available at: https://www.njpw1972.com/79213

**PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reports that six documentaries starring Bret Hart have been pulled from the WWE Network. These include:

  • Bret Hart: The Best There Is, the Best There Was, the Best There Ever Will Be
  • Hart and Soul: Hart Family Anthology
  • WWE Top 50 Superstars
  • Greatest Rivalries: Bret vs. Shawn
  • Bret Hart: The Dungeon Collection
  • The Most Powerful Families in Wrestling

Johnson would go on to suggest that the removal of these titles may have something to do with Hart’s ownership of his matches from the Stampede Wrestling video library. Other content covering Hart’s career, such as his appearance on Steve Austin’s “Broken Skull Sessions” remain available.

**NXT UK Champion WALTER turns 33 today.

**The WWE stock closed at $44.03 on Thursday.
