Dana White announced the UFC’s return to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi next month with three cards in a week culminating with the rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier.

In an Instagram story post, White revealed the poster listing the three fight cards set for January on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

The promotion opens its year with a Fight Night card on Saturday, January 16th featuring a featherweight main event between Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar. Holloway is coming off two losses to current 145-pound champion Alexander Volkanovski and will be Holloway’s first non-title fight since June 2016.

The UFC returns with another Fight Night on Wednesday, January 20th with White announcing that the welterweight fight between Leon Edwards and Khamzat Chimaev will headline that show. The two were scheduled to fight earlier this month but Edwards tested positive for COVID-19.

The major show is UFC 257 taking place Saturday, January 23rd with Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier headlining in a lightweight fight.

The return of McGregor will represent his first fight since January 2020, and the Irish star’s first lightweight fight since October 2018. Poirier last competed in June where he defeated Dan Hooker by unanimous decision.

The two previously fought in September 2014 in a featherweight contest where McGregor stopped Poirier in the first round at UFC 178.
