AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida successfully defended her title against Abadon on night one of New Year’s Smash. On tonight’s episode of Dynamite, it was announced that Shida’s next challenger will be determined via an eliminator tournament.

The same tournament was held for the men’s division in late 2020 which Kenny Omega won and went on to become AEW World Champion. AEW noted that the women’s tournament is kicking off soon.

There have been three AEW Women’s World Champions with the first being Riho, followed by Nyla Rose and Shida is the current champion.

There will be 16 women competing in the tournament and the rankings for AEW’s women’s division are listed as followed in order from first to last: Serena Deeb (NWA World Women’s Champion), Big Swole, Nyla Rose, Penelope Ford and Anna Jay.
