NJPW kicked off its Super Junior Tag League tournament on Saturday as part of the ongoing Summer Struggle tour.
The tournament will run for the next ten days with the top point-getters being awarded the victory.
Saturday’s card at Korakuen Hall in front of 483 fans was headlined by the reigning IWGP junior heavyweight tag champions Taiji Ishimori & El Phantasmo defeating former champions SHO & YOH of Roppongi 3K after Ishimori pinned YOH with the Bloody Cross.
Recently crowned IWGP junior heavyweight champion Robbie Eagles & Tiger Mask earned two points on the opening night with a win against Dick Togo & Gedo, a team that highlights the lack of depth available for this tournament.
The other tournament match featured El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru going over Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi with Kanemaru pinning Taguchi.
The tournament continues Sunday and Monday at Korakeun Hall with the following tournament matches scheduled for Sunday at 5:30 a.m. ET on New Japan World:
