WRESTLING NEWS

**During a media appearance to promote “Red Notice”, Dwayne Johnson denied that he will be wrestling Roman Reigns next year at WrestleMania.

While speaking with Andrew Freund of Dish Nation to promote the movie release, Johnson was asked about any truth to the story of him facing Reigns at WrestleMania 38: (Transcription by Jason Ounpraseuth at WrestlingINC.com)

Andrew, you’ve known me for a very long time, I can tell you that there is no truth to that right now. Possibly down the road, we will see. We stay very close, myself and Roman Reigns, and I’m very happy, very proud for the work that he’s doing, as well as The Usos, my other family members. So those guys will continue to do what they’re doing, and we’ll see down the road.

Johnson has not wrestled a real match since WrestleMania 29 in 2013 where he faced John Cena at MetLife Stadium. At WrestleMania 32, Johnson did have a several-second-long match with Erick Rowan that involved some physicality.

This month marks 25-years since Johnson’s on-screen debut for the WWF at the Survivor Series in 1996 at Madison Square Garden.

**On his 37th birthday, Keith Lee posted a statement after the news of release from WWE last week. In the statement, Lee noted that during his health struggles over the past few months, he paid for all his medical expenses.

Greetings and salutations. This day is my birthday! It is not a happy birthday but it is one I am most grateful for. Several months ago, it was not a guarantee I would make it to this day, so there is positivity in that. I paid all my medical bills from the many offices and machines I frequented. There is positivity in that. And, I do find it amusing that people believe anyone but me paid for my medical expenses.

I was going to wait a couple weeks, but I think it’s time to look toward the future, forward march as I like to say. I am capable of so much more and I can’t wait to see what it looks like properly. I have a wide array of interests and abilities…. I also consider myself to be rather open minded. Here’s to a future that, for all intents and purposes…seems Limitless.

**Greg Oliver at SLAM! Wrestling has an interview with Angelo Mosca Jr., the son of the late Angelo Mosca, who died on Saturday at the age of 84.

**Oliver was also a guest on The Jeff Marek Show on Sportsnet 590 to discuss the passing of Angelo Mosca.

**Riddle was interviewed by Alex McCarthy at talkSPORT and spoke about his relationship with Bill Goldberg, which has been turbulent over Riddle’s time in WWE. The co-holder of the Raw tag titles shared the following details about the plane ride back from Saudi Arabia and where the two currently stand:

Bill and I had a conversation. It was like ‘Bill, I’m sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way’ on the way back from Saudi Arabia. We were on the plane, had a couple of cocktails. I’m not saying we’re best friends, but we are doing way better than we were. I think just us talking and seeing him work [longer matches this year], you just get to know somebody and understand them.

He’s like me; if you just listen to the dirt sheets or watch me do interviews, you might hate me [laughs]. But in real life, I’m a pretty nice guy. I talk crap, but that’s just to drum up interest. He realises that – I think we’re all good.

**WWE will be staging an episode of Friday Night SmackDown and WWE Raw in Canada in January. The company has also announced that the January 24th edition of WWE Raw will take place from the Rogers Arena in Edmonton, Alberta for the final Raw before the Royal Rumble.

**Due to a scheduling conflict, AEW has changed the date of its Dynamite taping for New Orleans, Louisiana at the UNO Lakefront Arena. The promotion was slated to run the venue on Wednesday, January 12th and the new date is Wednesday, April 13th. Tickets purchased for the show in January will be valid in April or can receive a refund. Earlier today, AEW announced that the January 12th tapings will now take place from the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

MMA NEWS

**As expected, UFC did tremendous business in its return to Madison Square Garden for UFC 268 on Saturday. The company announced attendance of 20,715 and a gate of $9,900,000 (which Dana White stated was the fourth largest in the history of the arena with UFC 205 in the top spot featuring Eddie Alvarez vs. Conor McGregor from November 2016).

The Fight of the Night bonus was obviously the fight between Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler. The promotion handed out four Performance of the Night bonuses with Marlon Vera, Alex Pereira, Bobby Green, and Chris Barnett receiving $50,000 each in bonus money.

**Kamaru Usman’s legacy continues to grow after his 19th consecutive win and fifth defense of the welterweight championship. The debate over the greatest welterweight of all time is going to intensify with Georges St-Pierre holding that distinction since his retirement, although Usman is building an incredible career to even out the debate. His next opponent would appear to be Leon Edwards (provided he beats Jorge Masvidal next month at UFC 269), who Usman beat in December 2015. Khamzat Chimaev may represent the most interesting challenge from a marketing standpoint but truly needs another 1-2 fights and would be too much of a stretch to go from Li Jingliang to a title fight. The only option besides Edwards would be Vicente Luque, who has won his last four and was brought to New York to weigh in as a backup. Others to watch out for in 2022 would be Belal Muhammad, who is unbeaten in his last six fights, and Neil Magny, who has won three of his last four but has never quite reached that championship picture despite his long tenure in the promotion with a record of 18-7 in the UFC.

**This Saturday’s UFC Fight Night card features an excellent featherweight main event between Max Holloway (22-6) and Yair Rodriguez (13-2, 1 NC) from the UFC Apex. Holloway had one of the best performances I’ve ever witnessed against Calvin Kattar earlier this year and is the clear-cut challenger for Alexander Volkanovski with a win on Saturday. Rodriguez has not fought in two years since beating Jeremy Stephens in 2019 and it’s a monumental task to return against Holloway in a five-round setting.

A relatively forgotten angle where Animal turned on Hawk in 1998 during the tail-end of their WWF tenure as Darren Drozdov was introduced to the group:

Yes, it turns out this match actually happened on an episode of WCW Monday Nitro in 1999:

The first fight between Luke Rockhold and Michael Bisping from 2014. Two years later, Bisping upset Rockhold at UFC 199 to become the UFC middleweight champion:
