Smackdown notes: Rousey singles match on SmackDown next week, Reigns-Lesnar contract signing

By: Dave LeClair

SmackDown aired live from Hershey, PA in front of a sellout crowd. Leading into the show, the WWE pushed a McIntyre vs. Moss match, a Reigns-Lesnar contract signing, and an appearance by new Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn.

Match Results:

  • New Day (Kofi Kingston and Big E) defeated Los Lotharios
  • Xia Li defeated Natalya in her main roster debut
  • Sasha Banks defeated Shotzi with Naomi on commentary
  • Drew McIntyre defeated Madcap Moss

As reported earlier today, the SmackDown commentators confirmed that Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will meet during night two of WrestleMania and that it’ll be a title unification match. The WWE has started calling it the “Biggest WrestleMania Match of All Time.”

In other news, Michael Cole is the greatest commentator of all time, according to Pat McAfee. The aforementioned greatest commentator opened the show by interviewing Ronda Rousey and he asked why she came back to the WWE. Rousey wanted to set an example for her daughter, which is why she came back.

As Sonya was involved in attacking Ronda Rousey, Adam Pearce announced that Deville and Rousey would meet in a one-on-one match on the 3/4 episode of SmackDown.

Sam Roberts is doing backstage interviews on SmackDown now, and Pat McAfee isn’t happy about it. His first interview was The Usos.

Xia Li made her SmackDown in-ring debut against Natalya, which she actually won.

Johnny Knoxville interrupted Sami Zayn’s celebration segment. Knoxville challenged Zayn for a championship match, presumably at WrestleMania. Zayn attacked Knoxville without responding to the challenge.

Adam Pearce added Ricochet versus Sami Zayn to the 3/4 episode of SmackDown in Miami.

After Sasha Banks defeated Shotzi in a quick match, Naomi said she and Banks will be the next tag team champions, which seems to have come out of nowhere

WWE advertised an Edge appearance for RAW and a match between Finn Balor and Damian Priest for the United States Championship.

Viking Raiders versus the Usos was made official for the 3/4 SmackDown episode.

Vince McMahon will be on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday 3/3.
