Dream Slam Weekly (Vol. 13): Suzu Suzuki wins CATCH THE WAVE 2022 & Regina de WAVE Championship

Dream Slam Weekly (Vol. 13): Suzu Suzuki wins CATCH THE WAVE 2022 & Regina de WAVE Championship

Are you surviving what feels like one of the hottest summers in recent history? Between the heat and humidity in Florida paired with all the hot tournaments going on all summer long, I’m surprised that I haven’t completely melted away. I have certainly eaten my weight in ice cream and while I am still adventuring to shows, I am trying to enjoy it all safely. After making the drive from Orlando, FL to Charlotte, NC, I am finishing up this week’s DSW as I am enjoying time with friends who also love wrestling.

Summers in Japan can be like ones in Florida, brutally hot and stiflingly humid, meaning it’s very easy to get dehydrated or even get heat stroke! I remember one summer when I was teaching class (since they have year round school), that I collapsed mid-sentence from heat and humidity, so it’s more common than we often think! I hope everyone takes care and fights off those summer colds and gets healthy soon. Stay hydrated. Get outside, watch the clouds, smell the flowers, pet a dog, and enjoy time doing something you love or want to try for the first time.

Next weekend, I’ll be covering the opening weekend for Stardom’s Five Star Grand Prix, so I hope you’ll join me on the journey as I close in on my one year anniversary with POST!

Just Tap Out

JTO Girls’ 20th Birthday Celebration for Aoi & Tomoka Inaba (7/22) – JTO Arena, Chiba

  • Singles Match: Yu Yamashita defeated rhythm (9:13)
  • Tag Match: Sumika Yanagawa defeated Tomoka Inaba & Aoi vs. Misa Kagura (12:37)

Cultural Note: In Japan, when someone turns twenty they are considered a legal adult. Every January on Coming of Age Day, everyone turning 20 in a given year, gets dressed up and goes to shrines for blessings and may often prepare to party because it’s the legal drinking age (once they formally celebrate their birthdays). Recently, legislation changes are lowering some age requirements such as voting and marriage to eighteen. However, for drinking, smoking, and gambling, it’s still twenty.

Aoi celebrated her birthday on July 21st and Inaba will celebrate on July 24th! Happy Birthday to both!

AoTomo II (8/6) – Produced by Aoi & Tomoko Inaba; Basement Monstar Hachioji

  • King vs. Queen of JTO Match: Ryuya Takekura (King; JTO #1) vs. Tomoko Inaba (Queen; JTO #1)
  • Singles Match: Aoi vs. Rina Yamashita

TakaTaichiDespy Mania Tomoka Inaba & Aoi (JTO) vs. Stardom’s Maika (Donna del Mondo) and MIRAI (God’s Eye) – While MIRAI originated in Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling, Maika got her start in Just Tap Out before she was scouted by Giulia as the first member of DDM. MIRAI would leave TJPW and join DDM at the beginning of 2022, only to depart when Syuri struck out on her own after becoming World of Stardom Champion. With the increase of crossover between Stardom and NJPW, it is a logical matchup between JTO and Stardom as JTO’s talent has also been prominently presented on Stardom’s New Blood series, with Inaba even getting a Future of Stardom Championship match against current champion, Hanan.

Weekly Match Selection

While most of us were sleeping, Stardom launched their third brand Stardom in Showcase complete with quirky gimmick matches, surprise guests, beloved character returns, and DJ Pretty Dragon spinning throughout the show. The opening match, The Nagoya Rumble, opened the show and was aired for free. One of my favorite Rumble participants from No People Gate in 2020 made a bold return, as well as an Opposite Day character, appeared for the first time since 2021.

I love that not one, but two beloved Rumble Participants made their triumphant returns to Stardom. This was a fun opening match for Stardom’s latest, anything goes fusion invitational programming format.

  • Promotion: Stardom
  • Event Name: Stardom in Showcase
  • Show Date: (July 32, 2022)
  • Competitors: Nagoya Rumble: Mayu Iwatani, Saki Kashima, Hazuki, Momo Kohgo, Hanan, Ruaka, Rina, Hina, Lady C, MIRAI, Miyu Amasaki, X & XX
  • Venue: Nagoya International Conference Hall

Thanks for reading! Have a great week!
