Nigel McGuinness has been released by WWE, according to a report from PWinsider.com.

McGuinness was not listed among the new broadcast teams that Variety reported on Thursday for Raw, Friday Night SmackDown & NXT.

The 46-year-old joined WWE in late 2016 and called the first U.K. Championship tournament alongside Michael Cole in January 2017 and was the precursor to NXT UK being launched.

McGuinness’ time in WWE was briefly interrupted in 2020 when he was furloughed but returned several months later and was calling NXT UK alongside Andy Shepard.

McGuinness had been part of the commentary team on NXT Level Up.

As a wrestler, McGuinness retired in 2011 following a career that included an 18-month reign as ROH champion from October 2007 until April 2009.

After WWE opted not to sign McGuiness in 2009 due to his medical disclosures, McGuinness went to TNA and was re-named Desmond Wolfe and engaged in a series of memorable matches with Kurt Angle to close out the year. He worked for TNA until June 2011 and took a position with Ring of Honor as a commentator and the on-screen matchmaker, which lasted until the end of 2016.

POST Wrestling has reached out for independent confirmation on his release.
