Iwatani made the announcement at a presentation.

Bushiroad’s 2024 New Year Presentation took place on January 6th and there were STARDOM and New Japan Pro-Wrestling announcements.

On the STARDOM front, IWGP Women’s Champion Mayu Iwatani was present and revealed that the film about her life, ‘Runaway Wrestler’, comes out on May 17th. Iwatani published an autobiography in 2020 and the film is going to be based off what she wrote in her book.

Some of the filming took place during the summer of 2023 at Korakuen Hall and Shinjuku FACE. Among those appearing in the film are Momo Kohgo and current WWE talent Kairi Sane

There was a scene filmed that covers a match between Iwatani and Kagetsu. The role of Kagetsu was played by Syuri, who Iwatani defended the IWGP Women’s Championship against in the main event of STARDOM’s 1/4 show.
