Cole intends to finish his career in AEW.

After being unable to compete for a year due to a broken ankle injury, Adam Cole is now back in the mix of AEW. His return match is happening on the 10/30 Dynamite against Buddy Matthews.

To promote his comeback bout, Cole joined the Stick to Wrestling Podcast. Along the way, he was asked if his goal is to finish out his in-ring career as a member of AEW. He said yes and added ‘never say never’ to there being a different end result, but he loves AEW and has no plans of leaving.

Yes, yes (it is my goal to end my career in AEW). I believe so. Of course, like we say in pro wrestling, obviously never say never. You never know what’s gonna happen but I love AEW with all of my heart. I love our crew, I love our boss, I love our fans. I absolutely love it here and have no real plans of leaving.

Elsewhere during the conversation, Cole was asked if he was going to win the AEW World Championship from MJF prior to his injury.

He does not know that to be 100 percent, but feels that’s the direction things were headed. Cole shared that having that in his head while dealing with the ankle injury added to the mental battle he was facing. He hopes the World Title is still in his future.

So, as you know in the world of professional wrestling, there are constantly different ideas being thrown around or changes constantly. So, do I know for sure that I was gonna be in line to becoming the AEW World Champion? I’m not totally sure but that’s certainly where it seemed like we were going. That’s certainly the direction that I think very possibly could have happened had I not been injured which really did add to the mental anguish of the entire process but again, there are constant roadblocks thrown our way all the time. We gotta adapt, we have to pivot, and I still have a lot of my wrestling career left so I certainly hope the AEW World Title is in my future in the future.

In addition to Cole versus Matthews, here is the match lineup for Fright Night Dynamite:

  • Adam Cole vs. Buddy Matthews
  • Kris Statlander vs. Kamille (w/ Mercedes Moné)
  • Shelton Benjamin (w/ MVP) vs. Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana)
  • AEW World Tag Team Championships: The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson) (c) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) (Note: If Private Party loses, they must split)
