Television viewership figures have been released for the Christmas Eve edition of NXT, and Dynamite on 34th Street on Christmas Day.
AEW’s taped edition from the Hammerstein Ballroom ranked second in prime-time cable programming on Wednesday with an average of 574,000 viewers and approximately 241,000 viewers (0.18) in the 18-49 demographic. (Wrestlenomics and Programming Insider)
It was a strong night for sports viewing, with ABC and ESPN airing the Golden State Warriors vs. L.A. Lakers and Netflix just ending its coverage of the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans game.
The Warriors vs. Lakers game averaged 4,845,000 viewers (1.32 in the 18-49 demo) on ABC and 2,996,000 viewers (1.00 in 18-49) on ESPN. Dynamite beat everything on cable in prime time except the NBA game and topped the NFL Network’s coverage of the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (0.13) and a pair of college basketball games in the demo.
Dynamite’s viewership dropped by 8% from the prior week while the core demo declined by 4%. The last holiday-related Dynamite was on Thanksgiving Eve in November when the show aired live coast-to-coast and averaged 536,000 viewers and 0.15 in the demo, so they performed better on Christmas.
On TSN 2 in Canada, Dynamite averaged 66,000 viewers and 37,000 in the 25-54 demographic and did not rank among the top ten sports programs on Wednesday.
NXT on Christmas Eve was also a taped episode with its second show from Lowell, Massachusetts, and attracted an audience of 723,000 viewers and 191,000 viewers (0.14) in the 18-49 demographic. (Wrestlenomics and Programming Insider)
It was NXT’s third-largest audience since debuting on CW during the first two weeks in September. NXT increased its overall audience by 2% while the 18-49 audience saw a decline of 9% from the prior week.
Its network competition included ABC’s airing of the 1990 film “Home Alone”, which was #1 on television on Tuesday with 3,367,000 viewers and 0.63 in the demo.
NXT topped Fox for the night. It aired Lego Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular from 8-10 p.m. ET and averaged 634,000 viewers and 0.11 in the demo.
The show averaged 83,900 viewers and 38,600 in the 25-54 demographic on Sportsnet 360 in Canada for its penultimate episode on the station before moving to Netflix. It ranked third among sports programs on Tuesday.
