Styles confirms he was backstage at Final Resolution.
The ongoing partnership between WWE and TNA Wrestling is on display and the next stage of that is coming at NXT Roadblock where there will be multiple TNA versus WWE bouts.
The latest to weigh in on the partnership is multi-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion A.J. Styles. While appearing on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, he stated that he’d like to return to TNA. The Georgia native then confirmed that he was backstage at TNA Final Resolution in December 2024 which emanated from Atlanta.
I don’t know (if my return to TNA Wrestling will happen). I’d like it to. I think it’d be fun to do something like that. Like a one-off. I would definitely do it… It would wouldn’t it (old TNA theme song would have to be used for my comeback)? It kind of would.
So, I went up and visited as they were in Atlanta. Maybe a month or two ago. Frankie Kazarian was there so I was able to hang out with him but there was so many other people there that I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. Oh wow,’ you know? Gail Kim, Christy Hemme, those are my guys. But, Eric Young, also there. But it was really cool to see — I thought it looked really good. I think they did a really good job and I know they don’t have a lot of money to work with but for what they had, I thought looked really good. I was like, man, these guys are really doing something. So, it’s exciting to see and I hope that we continue to work with TNA-WWE and help them as much as they’re helping us because NXT talent being shown in TNA and vice versa, it’s good for everybody.
There was a conversation about if Styles were to return to TNA, he’d have to use the ‘Get Ready To Fly’ theme. He expressed that he does not want to come out to that song again.
Styles then went on to state that it was his call to change his theme for his most recent heel run in WWE. When he returned from injury as a part of the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble match, he asked for his ‘Phenomenal’ theme back and no one batted an eye at the request.
Yeah (it was my call to bring back the ‘Phenomenal’ WWE theme song). It was my call to change it (when I turned heel) too. Because as a bad guy, I thought my song was a little too cool. Everybody loves that song, I love the song. But that’s not who I was trying to be. I wanted you to not like me, that you despised me and I thought, well, if I change the song up, people are gonna hate it. Perfect. If they do, perfect, and then, when I knew I was coming back and I’m going to be the good guy again, I was like, ‘I want my old music back,’ and nobody said anything. They were like, ‘Yep! That’s fine.’ So, yeah, it was my decision.
Styles spoke candidly about the foot injury he suffered in the fall of 2024 and how he thought there was a chance his career could have been over. To read more, click here.
