Shawn Spears def. Tony D’Angelo to become WWE NXT North American Champion

Spears’ first title in WWE.

The headlining match of the March 4th edition of NXT on The CW was a North American Title defense that saw Tony D’Angelo defending against Shawn Spears.

D’Angelo was accompanied to the ring by The Family (Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo, Adriana Rizzo & Luca Crusifino) and Spears was flanked by his newly formed faction that consists of Niko Vance, Brooks Jensen and Izzi Dame.

The two sides clashed after Dame put Spears’ foot on the bottom rope during the referee’s count. Rizzo then went after Dame and the two groups came to blows. While Stacks was in the ring, he was facing D’Angelo who had climbed back up onto the ring apron. Spears pushed Stacks into D’Angelo which sent the champion flying back-first onto a chair.

D’Angelo was able to kick out of the pin that proceeded that but it was later in the match when he went for a pop-up spinebuster, but was not able to finish the move as his back gave out on him. Spears immediately climbed on D’Angelo for the pin to capture the North American Championship.

It is Spears’ first title win in the 10 total years that he has spent with WWE throughout his career. D’Angelo’s reign clocked out at 148 days.
