John Cena has high hopes for Dominik Mysterio.
Cena gave a glowing review of the 28-year-old wrestler during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show this Monday, praising Mysterio just hours after he captured the WWE United States Championship at Wrestlemania 41.
Cena spoke about collaborating with Mysterio in his early years as a wrestler, mentioning how quickly he picked up on how things worked in the industry.
“Dom Mysterio is born for this, period,” he said on Monday. “I got to work with him very early in his career. I’ve had the chance to work with experienced talent, but I’ve also had the chance to work with a lot of new talent. You can tell right away, there’s always late arrivals. People can like, not get it and then figure it out, I’m a living example of that. But there’s also those people, I remember Randy Orton making everything look easy. Dom makes everything effortless. And he doesn’t crack under pressure. Any pool you drop him in, he’s not only treading water, he’s swimming laps around everybody else.”
Mysterio is the son of WWE legend Rey Mysterio, so there have been high expectations for him before he ever even stepped in a ring. But Cena doesn’t see that as too much. In fact, he has a hot take: Dominik might become the biggest Mysterio yet.
“Dom Mysterio, we ain’t even close to what that kid’s capable of, he’s incredible,” Cena said. “He’s going to be incredible for the next 20 years, or as long as he wants to be in this business. He will be, and I love his dad, he will be the most famous Mysterio in professional wrestling.”
Sunday night was big for both Mysterio and Cena. In the main event of Wrestlemania 41, Cena took down Cody Rhodes to become the Undisputed WWE Champion. Earlier that night, Mysterio captured the U.S. title after winning a fatal four-way match.
