El Desperado will defend his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship against Jun Kasai.

After appearing on Sunday’s Best of the Super Junior final card, Kasai will now face the current champion at the Death Pain Invitational at Korakuen Hall on June 24.

From NJPW:

Now the match is on, in what should be a new water (or should that be blood?) shed for the junior heavyweight championship. The ruleset for this contest is currently to be announced, but with the event itself bearing the branding of the Death Pain Invitacional at Kasai’s suggestion, one could imagine the kind of punishment both will go through on June 24.

Kasai has pinned Desperado twice this year, beginning with a Fluorescent Light & Glass Board Xtreme Three Way Death match with Kasai, Desperado, and Masashi Takeda on March 10, and Kasai teaming with Toru Sugiura to beat Desperado & Violento Jack in a Fluorescent Light tubes & Alpha Death match on May 2.

The two previously had a singles match at the TakaTaichiDespeMania card in September 2022.

El Desperado stated that he was delaying his title defense against Kosei Fujita until he faces Kasai later this month.

Fujita won the Best of the Super Juniors tournament on Sunday and will receive a future IWGP Jr. Heavyweight title match.
